A player on a budget

Hey I'm new to this gaming thing and started approaching this summer.ll have my masters in two years and hopefully a cpa.Im starting to get ready to live on my own ahead of time but I'm having trouble budgeting a player lifestyle. I'm estimating ill make around $460 after taxes a week in the small city where I live with my certification, and my budget is as follows
Food:$50
Rent/utilities: $160
Cell phone: $22.50
Gas: $30
Starbucks to game day approaches:$28
Emergency fund:$50
Car insurance: $25
Student Loans:$40
Miscellanous13.50
Laundry:$13
Books to read:$5
Gym:$7.50
Hulu (for Seinfeld): $8

At this rate I'll never be able to travel or own a house or do a bunch of alpha shit I desire to do. I know by being a CPA my income will rise over the years by in the mean time while I'm young, how do I compensate and have money for clothes/travel/bar game? Am I being overconservative? Is there better ways to save money? Any advice would be helpful

I assume your costs are per week as you're prob not eating $50 a month of food.

$22.50 per week on your phone is $90 a month. That's way too much. Shop around for a package that works for you. Personally I always buy a used smartphone, unlocked, and then get a sim only deal, but in the usa i think you can't do that.

Starbucks? you don't have to drink starbucks to talk to people. $28/ week is $1,456 per year! Enough to pay for a vacation abroad.

Your car insurance is over $1,200 per year. That's worth working on to get a better deal.

Books to read.... well I am glad they are not to eat. Paper doesn't taste great. [Image: tongue.gif]

Seinfeld... there are ways to get that for free. There's also a lot of legal content on bittorrent. Is Hulu really $32 a month? Netflix is cheaper...

Ditch the Starbucks, they sell shit anyways. You obviously have internet, so you dont ever have to pay for any book if you dont want to. Not that im advocating that. You can find Seinfeld and any other show in the same sites where you can find those books you wont pay for.

Your laundry bills can be greatly reduced if you hand wash some of your clothes (which would be better for the clothes anyways) and buy all your socks and underwear of the same brand, style and colour.

You could also go without a gym bill but I wouldnt recommend you go without it. Excercise is the best way to keep your sanity and stay focused when one is broke. Also, it helps you socialize and gives you a dose of male bonding and tribal unity.

Your food expense is already low, but it can be further reduced by eating smarter. Also, since you are a student, scout your schools cultural events agenda for exhibit openings, open houses, etc. They usually have free food there. Plus, its good for your social skills and it helps to bee seen around as "that cool guy thats everywhere".

Yes you can. Look around the forum and see for yourself all the things you can do to travel on a budget. Those same $460 would go a long way at over 80% of the rest of the world.

Also, check the finance section and get your hustle game on. You can make a lot of money while you are still at school. I wish I had a forum like this one when I was in school. Wouldnt have wasted so much time.

I'm not making that much now, but with my GPA and experience on my resume I'm expecting that will be my worst case scenario...hulu should be $2 a week my bad....so what would be the cheapest way to game everyday?

Sell your car and move closer to a logistically superior area. The way you're set up basic car maintenance is going to put you in the red.

Get a roommate, buy a bicycle, and find a few inexpensive hobbies that will help your game: something social, maybe a skill like cooking, find people to go hiking with. Ditch your expensive cell phone plan and use wifi at starbucks etc. Don't eat/drink out at all, get a barebones wardrobe you dont have to spend $13 a week cleaning. etc.

Get a part time job that will function as 'extra money' you're dependent on your first job for necessities but a second job (or hustle) will be used to cover any wants you might have, if you don't have any shifts or quit the only thing affected will be your spending money as opposed to your livelyhood money.

All that being said a super strict budget is going to fuck with your head more than it;'ll do good. It's like trying to count every calorie ingested instead of reducing portion sizes, eating 'clean' and exercising more. Living paycheque to paycheque is the biggest cockblock out there, not necessarily because youre broke, but because of the way it affects you mentally. You'll never be able to do anything you want to do if you're a slave paying off debt for the rest of your life.

oh, and online game.

If you're going to college, and spending time on campus; then you're in a prime location to day game and collect numbers. Approach all day every day while going about your business on campus. Best of all its free!
