The excessive use of the stimuli, he said, "begins to change brain function. It begins to change the reward centre of the brain, and produces a kind of excitement and addiction."

This is a very real thing we should all be concerned about.

If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is.

Yeah, video games maybe were isolating men, but women are suddenly clamoring for inclusion into the "gaming" world for a reason. Dat aloof game worked perfectly to a T.

I second that yawn. ^^^^^

And here is why you should be happy you have older guys on the forum. I'm old enough to remember the mid-'80s. You wanna know what was going on back then?

#1: The "Porn Wars." Feminists like Andrea Dworkin were claiming porn made men "violent" and forced the government's hand into studying it. In '86 they came out with the results, called the "Meese Report."

What did it say? No one remembers. Because it was laughed at. Men continued to view porn and violent crime has been falling since the 1990s.

#2: Video Game Controversy/Dungeons and Dragons Panic. There were magazine cover stories on this. Games were causing violence, they claimed, and turning kids into "zombies," etc. Wikipedia has a page on it.

Well, the 1980s ended, all those "vidiots" (as they were known) grew up and got jobs in the 1990s, and mayhem and a wrecked society didn't happen. In fact, you could argue the "vidiots" grew up to invent the Internet and Silicon Valley.

Also, keep in mind this was a moral panic over games that were so primitive that if you saw them now you fall over laughing. Yeah, Nintendo's Tetris was gonna be the ruin of society.

I hate to sound like a commie leftist, but whenever men are doing things other than being robot-worker bees or killing for the state, someone feels the need to criticize them to make them "step back into line."

No one stops to think that perhaps shooting at imaginary characters and sexing up women onscreen is actually better for society than shooting up real people and having wanton one-night-stands.

And beyond all that, the obvious other thing to say here is: Why are they not studying the bullshit women waste their time on, like "50 Shades," "Twilight," selfies, and the bakery section of the supermarket?

Yes, I am old enough to remember.

The D&D guys were closet cases. Simply an early version of the sexless chodes, hipsters, et' al you see today.

The real crisis in masculinity came with those damned Nintendo games of the 1990s.

To get them to work, boys had to blow on them. Well, you all know what blowing led to, don't you? A CRISIS!!!!!!

Perhaps the writer of this article, Tom Porter, can spend 2,000 words extrapolating on that next. It'll be just as useful.

At the end of the day, at the very minimum, you should have a right to go home, jerk off, and play video games if that's your thing. It's the consolation prize for a shitty day.

The day that's officially outlawed, you know you got problems.

You'll have omega rage on a grand scale!

What a vile lie. Everyone knows blowing on your cartridges is more natural and safer than not blowing on them. When will Big Nintendo's deception end?

I'm really surprised by the negative reaction. He talks about the lack of male role models, Ritalin being Uber over prescribed to boys, the elimination of physical education...

The Guardian version of the article looks like it could be on a tamer version of a return of kings.

Ask anyone who coaches little league, boys have gotten softer. In the military, there are more injuries as they have gotten less and less physical activity over the years.

What he says is valid but I think he's mixed up causality as people have said.

Someone needs to point this guy in the direction of the excellent series The Sexodus so he can stop peddling his bullshit. Of course he's probably bought into the narrative and will just ignore it or reply with all the snark he can muster.
