Can anyone give me advice on vaccines? I'm heading down to Peru next week on a one way ticket and I forgot about immunizations until the last minute. I already have a yellow fever one from 2013 that is good until 2023. I had a hep a from 2012 but unfortunately I forgot to get the booster 6 months later so I believe my immunity has expired. Also, got a live typhoid vaccine in 2012 which was supposed to be good for 5 years. That is likely expired now as well.

If I go to the Doctors to get these this week, they said they need me to get a "travel physical". For that plus the hepatitus a and typhoid I was quoted at between $300-$500 dollars out of pocket. That seems pretty ridiculous.

Does anyone have any experience getting these vaccines abroad for cheaper? Are they even really necessary?

If you stay in Lima my understanding is there is nothing to worry about ...sure you can take some typical vaccines for hep or whatever

Read Gov websites for travel.

now if you travel north to the jungles or cuzco? there may be some extra precautions.to take.vaccine wise. But you didn't mention your travel plans in Peru.

Yellow Fever vaccine is in short supply is what I have read.

Zero reason for vaccines if you'll be in Lima. Unless you'll be out working in rural Peru where you might want like tetanus, rabies, etc. Maybe malaria if you'll be in the jungle. I've never gotten vaccinations but have had to go doctors a few times in South America. I can guarantee you vaccines will be cheaper than what you are getting quoted in the US. In Lima you have Clinica Anglo Americana in La Molina is your best bet as a gringo.

Also, WTF, you are going on on a one ticket. Do you have a return ticket that you can just cancel and refund once you touch down? For Peru you need proof of onward travel or they won't let you on the airplane in your departure country.

Well, I managed to get the Hepatitis A vaccine. After doing some research and calling around I found out they offered it at my local pharmacy, quick and easy took 30 minutes and no doctors visit. Best part was my insurance covered it so it was free.

Based on what you guys have said and based on what I've read online I am going to skip the Typhoid vaccine, shouldn't be a big deal.

I am already covered for yellow fever from a vaccine I took in 2013 in case I go to the jungle.

My plans are pretty wide open but I intend on spending a lot of time in various cities maybe 1-2 months living in each, ie Arequipa, Cusco, Huaraz etc.

I was planning on using this service at https://bestonwardticket.com/

They offer a $12 return flight ticket that's supposedly valid for 48 hours to show the airlines/immigration. I don't know how risky this is but they seem to have decent reviews on https://www.trustpilot.com/review/bestonwardticket.com

Although some people said they had problems because they only had an unpaid for reservation from them and not an official e-ticket, most seem to have received a legit verifiable ticket and it worked for them.

I guess I will go to the airport early and if my $12 onward ticket doesn't work I can scramble to buy some cheap flight out of the country on my phone quick.

I am also wondering how important the date of the onward ticket is. Will they look at it at immigration in Peru?

I am hoping to get the 183 day visa upon landing in Peru, but from what I understand this is not guaranteed and you have to ask for it?

Did you guys have any trouble getting the 6 month visa?

PERU TRIP REPORT DECEMBER 2017

Overall: Not many Americans (USA) visit Peru, you stand out especially if you speak good Spanish.

Cities Visited:

1. Lima
2. Arequipa
3. Cuzco/Cusco
4. Lima

Lima
Stayed in two hostels: Pariwana and Loki
They both call themselves party hostels, but I think Loki beats Pariwana 99x out of 100. More girls and a friendlier vibe than Pariwana. HB Lima girls come here and the talent is great on girls night. I took a private room and it blew my expectations. Clean and had a loft style to it.

Day Game
Check out the parks

Night Game
Don't remember the name of the bars, however danced with almost every girl I approached. Had an easier time gaming girls outside the bars and by the burger king/pizza hut in Miraflores. Got numbers then invited them to hangout the next night. Lots of these hoes know a good amount of English, but I used Spanish most of the time.

I did check out Sabor Peruano, lots of Venezuelan pros.

Overall Lima:
Food: 9/10
Girls: 8/10
Nightlife: 7/10
If I were to visit peru again, I would only go to Lima

Good report Uhriginal.I completely agree on only going to Lima.10 mil people and seems like 60% are women. They always seem available I think cause they don't get treated well--which is sad but a huge benefit to Rooshers.Only nature lovers should leave Lima.Lima is Fing huge.Its amazing to me places like Mexico City have 20 mil people.U can ride on a bus 1.5--2 hours just to get out of Lima.Ton of pretty and sweet girls.Very underrated.Just know a little Spanish and girls will be all over U. Hostess, waitress,bars,clubs,parks.Gold.

Trip Report - Arequipa December 2017 - (3nights, 2 days)

I decided to stay in this city before going to Cusco so I can acclimate to the altitude. Overall, its a chill city with decent weather and good food

Stayed at the Wild Rover Hostel and I took a private dorm ($35ish) (bring your cigarettes)
Enjoyed the place because with your wristband you can have a tab open all day. During the day, people in the hostel chilled by the pool (no one goes in) then at night people venture to the bar at the front. Manage to rally some troops to day drink and play beer pong and we set the vibe for the rest of the day. People looked at us like we're crazy

I would say half the people were on some tourist shit and not in a party vibe and the other half were partying (doing blow, drinking, fucking etc). hostel was like 4 dudes per 1 girl...

Dropped some seeds in the hostel but none came through. However, some euro chick that I talked to in this hostel saw me back in Lima and the rest was history.

Night Game
Weekdays are dead as fuck and most people were in groups or girls with guys. Ventured out with people from the hostel after the hostel bar closed but the bars were all dead/empty. Ended up going to a bar right around the corner from Wild Rover and it was full of Venezuelan and I talked with the Venezuelan bros and told them to put me on his girl (9/10 hbb). He's like yea she's down for the $100

That's one way I break into circles in Latin America, just talk with the bros then ask them to put you on their girls

Day Game
Besides the hostel, the local girls looked too native (Pocahantas) to my taste and didn't really bother. Saw plenty of girls hanging out at the plaza during the evening if you guys are about that. Check out the food in the area, really good.

Overall: Something I noticed throughout Peru is that only girls from Lima were more open to talk during the day and night. Local girls in Arequipa and Cusco weren't about it. I would recommend this city if you're going from Lima to Cusco. A good place to chill and get used to the altitude before heading to Cusco.
