The clicking is actually worse on the opposite ear ironically. Stretching the neck doesn't slow the clicking down. However breathing slowly sometimes does. Lying on my back makes it stronger.
How is an osteopath different than a chiropractor? They adjust bones too.

I'm on the third day of a water fast. So far my ears have less pressure. The TMJ bone seems as if it has contracted out of my ear. I currently have a lot of pressure near my sinuses. I also suffer from a lot of post nasal drip. A few more days and my ear pain will be a non-issue. I've done a water fast before, but 7 I only went 4-5 days. This time I plan on going 14 days water fasting + 7 smoothie fasting + 7 days eating greens. I also have an appointment for a chiropractor tomorrow. I plan on having them readjust my tmj, and I also want to consider Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), it is said to relax your muscles near the jaw. I'll try to document my progress for everyone. Hopefully, I can last the 14 days water fasting. I've heard the first 3 days are difficult, but after you reach the Ketosis stage. By water fasting I am eliminating my body of any toxins and inflammation that may be lingering around.

@numanist
Props my man, good to see people taking concrete steps to try and overcome this condition.
Keep us posted on your progress, if you see positive results, I will give it a go myself.
The hyperacusis I'm dealing with is annoying but I can handle it most days, it's the fucking clicking/pressure/tenderness I have in mostly my left ear on an ongoing basis, that is more debillitating.
I know it's at least partly sinus related, as I do have sinuses with pressure and pain around my eyes sometimes, and I often feel like my Eustachian tubes are not opening properly, which suggests I may have glue ear.
I also have a touch of nasal drip which I'm sure isn't helping the ears and sinuses, so reducing inflammation seems like the way to go alright.

Will do. I just hope I'm not a skeleton at the end of it all. According to data I've dug up, I will lose at least 5lbs of pure muscle. I expect to gain it all back eventually. By the way, if you fast don't do any strenuous exercises - that's what did me in last time. Also, drink plenty of fluids and make sure to do activities that require light amounts of activity.

@numanist How's it going with the water fast?
I've taken to eating raw ginger and cloves daily now as both are apprarently very effective at reducing inflammation.
I've read cases of people with ear tubes issues and even tinnitus clearing up completely after a few weeks of eating raw ginger, so am going to keep at it.
Neither are particularly palatable, but that said, I think your mouth and tongue start to acclimatise to these hot strong flavours after a while.

Not a bad idea.
I quit the water fast after 5 days because the work office had a potluck. I just couldn't help myself and I didn't really notice any real difference.
I'm now doing a dry fast for 3 days, and a smoothie fast for 7 days. During the dry fast, I noticed a difference because dry fasts eliminate water retention. I've also been going to the sauna and hot tub.

After reading this thread, I became more aware of my surroundings. In a major city, the shrieking of brakes in unbelievable - once you become aware of it.
I bought these earplugs for cycling around. They only cut out dangerous frequencies, but allow you to pay attention to your surroundings. They're great.
Cerca $15 for a set of three. They also come with a case that attaches to your keys. That has actually turned out to be really useful, as I have them on me at all times.
They were designed for listening to live music, so great for clubs and shows also. Very discrete look.

I've done some self diagnosis and finally I think I've found out what condition I have (as well as Hyperacusis).
Patulous Eustachian Tube, an unpleasant condition where the eustachian tube(s) remain open, causing discomfort, tenderness, fullness, 'clicking' and sometimes tinnitus and an echoey effect of your own voice when you speak.
Mine is not a severe case, but on a bad day I have almost all of these symptoms and on those days it's pretty damn depressing, the Hyperacusis is a lesser complaint compared to this thing.
Anyway, am going to keep up as healthy a lifestyle as I can, and see how it goes.
For some people apparently it subsides and resolves itself in time, but for others it can persist.
I'm going to do everything I can to ensure I'm in the first category and nuke this bitch from orbit.

So...has anyone else had persistent ringing in their ears go away after a couple weeks or so? I am...not in a good place right now and could use some hope. Trying to stay positive and have faith in my body to heal like Chaos and amity have said but it's difficult. I am scared, more than ever in my life honestly.
Soonest audiologist/ENT/whatever appointment I could get is for this coming Wednesday. On the night of the 8th I noticed a faint ringing, a few days later on Saturday night it suddenly got worse and I was up until almost 6 am unable to sleep. Sunday night I had a panic attack. I have been resting my ears as best I can and resumed my multi-vitamin and magnesium supplements. Just got some more zinc today, fuck it, why not right? Believe it or not that Lipo-flavonoid stuff is actually taking the edge off for me, I had heard it was nothing but snake oil, so I'm hopeful it's not permanent noise related tinnitus since it probably wouldn't do anything in that case.
I'm not really sure how it could be from noise but I am worried it is. I've been to maybe half a dozen loud music events ever and to the club exactly twice. I've been consistently using headphones for almost 2.5 years now and thought I was always being careful with the volume. The last thing I did before the faint ringing was some music on some speakers at what I thought was a reasonable volume. I used headphones a couple times in the following days. I mean I'm not some idiot who blasts music at levels that shake the earth. 70-85 decibels at most and for 1-2.5 hours at a time for the most part...how the fuck could my inner ear already be badly damaged? I guess headphones are really just bad no matter what. As far as I'm concerned I'm never touching them again.
I don't notice any hearing loss or damage. I'm 28. Is it possible for me to recover from this? I'm really hoping this is one big warning from my ears that I can learn from.
