My problem with clubs.

I like going to see bands play. We have a number of good places here that tend to bring some eclectic crowds.
The last time I went out was because this great-looking blonde invited me to a celebration she was having, and we ended up sitting next to each other talking about stuff. She admitted she and her boyfriend were on rocky roads.
Here's the thing. My voice, perhaps just because of it's tone/pitch is negated in these places. Nobody hears me. You'd think that'd be a good thing because I could get closer to her and speak in her ear, but it feels like I am yelling and losing out on the opportunity to make eye contact and send non-verbal signals.
When I was dating an ex, this was no problem because there was no need to try and make small-talk, but picking up someone where my voice isn't is tough shit.

Good point, but I am a horrible dancer when it comes to "freestyle" shit! Not an excuse, just a fact.

That's kinda what I mean with the freestyle. Do I move my feet lots, or my arms? Is it dumb to have a drink in my hand? I dunno.

If you're not comfortable on teh dancefloor stick to places that play hip-hop/house/pop music. As a guy you can get away with nothing more then putting your hands on a girls hips and just kinda rocking back and forth.
I had a revelation this weekend that, while I've been told I'm a great dancer in places playing the aforementioned type of music, I cannot dance AT ALL to white people music. Give me reggae, blues, rap, electric, I'm fine but if a band starts playing a Bon Jovi cover I'm fucked.
I do feel what your saying though. The Maryland (not DC mind you) area has a lot of bars and venues where there will be live or loud music, but no one is really dancing. So you cant use dancefloor game to grind a girl and get her going, and you cant have a normal conversation because its to loud. The night boils down to a lot of WHAT, WHAT WAS THAT, SAY THAT AGAIN. This makes me more hesitant to approach in general

That makes a lot of sense. You know, there a country bar here where the norm is to two-step. I actually enjoy that a lot more because I can find my rhythm and still embrace the person. I guess you just gotta deal with the lame music and all is a-ok.

I don't know why anybody thinks clubs are a good place to go. I hate them.

What's with this recent trend of bumping several years old thread with one-line comments?
