Best city for 3-6 months gaming in Ireland or Scotland?

Well my flight to the UK is only a few days away and I don't know whether I'm gonna set up shop in Glasgow or Edinburgh. Finding short-term accommodation has proven difficult. It's easy to find flatshares or spare rooms, but much harder to find private apartments that will rent for 3 months. Most minimum lease lengths are 6 months in both cities.

I found a pretty nicely furnished one bedroom flat near Broughton street halfway between Regent Gardens and New Town in Edinburgh. Modern furnishings, double bed, nice big TV in a living room with ample seating. I also found a company with a few different apartments available to the west of University of Glasgow - about 15 minutes walk from the intersection of Byres Road and Great Western Road - but it has slightly ugly furnishings, it has that kind of old hotel feel, bedspread like you'd see at grandma's house, shitty small boxy TV from 1999. BUT the Glasgow apartments are about 700-900 pounds a month depending on which one I'd take (they all seem pretty comparable), whereas the Edinburgh flat is 1000 pounds a month.

To be honest, the price difference is not the biggest deal in the world to me (though it's obviously extra savings at the end of the year), but I'm more iffy because I'm not sure whether West End Glasgow or just northeast of city-centre Edinburgh has better game opportunities. I'm a bit put off by the shitty furnishings of the Glasgow apartments, but I'm a bit put off by hearing over and over that Edinburgh is a tourist city and by the higher price of the flat there.

Things that make me apprehensive about city-center Edinburgh:
Edinburgh is supposed to be much more touristy and I know from living in touristy cities before that when locals hear you have a foreign accent many just immediately put you in the 'annoying tourist' mental category immediately. And I'm not really interested in gaming other tourists, I'm here for some Scottish speaks-English-fluently redhead pussy not to get blown out by Spanish exchange students in the club (motherfuckers are in every damn city in Europe), and I rely on a slower more classical bang on the third date game anyway 2-3 weeks after first meeting. Lastly, I've also heard many stereotypes that Edinburgh people are a bit more reserved / hard to make friends with than Glaswegians. And when you live in a touristy city, you don't give as much of a shit to make friends with foreigners they become more of a nuisance than anything else. Anyone agree or disagree?

Things that make me apprehensive about West End Glasgow:
Apartment is a bit shitty, it's run by a company that also has a hotel so it might be weirder bringing girls back, not sure yet what the setup is like there. Really ugly furnishings, not gonna impress anyone. Glasgow is supposed to be much more working class than Edinburgh, does this mean a corresponding drop in quality of girls? I'm into middle class girls who do yoga, not chav girls. But my main apprehension is just that the potential apartment I found is seemingly much shittier.

Obviously I can go stay in a hostel or Airbnb for a week, perhaps visit the apartments I'm looking at in both cities (it's only an hour train ride), and hunt for the perfect (possibly non-existent for 3 month lease term) flat, but I make enough money that missing work to run around town hunting for flats would very quickly start costing more more money than just taking a more expensive option and not missing any work.

Any last minute input? West End Glasgow vs Newtown-ish area Edinburgh?

DS, where is the tl;dr? [Image: lol.gif]

In all seriousness, at some point experience will be worth more than money.

If you are going to be there for a while, I think you get a short term rental or hotel and get some boots on the ground info before making a longer commitment.

I am sure that with the right approach you can turn that hour of train time into meeting people and more importantly getting better Intel and most importantly bumping into a redhead.

It seems like the place you may stay at is poorly furnished. I'd hate to not be happy where I was staying. And it makes an impression on your guests.

Good luck!

Glasgow being more than 2x the size of Edinburgh you will have a much larger size of what to go for. Having lived in Glasgow and visited Edinburgh multiple times, I can say that Edinburgh definitely gives off a classier vibe if that makes sense. The girls dress nicer by and large and perhaps by virtue of being more touristy it is a nicer and more aesthetically pleasing city. Less neds there and a large variety of girls. Glasgow however has a lot more to do in terms of nightlife, and the West End and Merchant City provide plenty of the yoga-type young/mid twenties chicks it seems like you'd be going for. Edinburgh may have a touch of higher quality but that could just be the size of the city as you will still see a good amount of classy and surprisingly attractive girls in Glasgow. Given your situation and what I believe you are looking for, I would recommend living in the West End of Glasgow but in a nicer pad than you're looking at if possible. Doesn't sound terrible but if you're spending the money you want a nice place. Edinburgh as you said is very close and would be a nice weekend as well. Also, if exploring is your thing I found Inverness up in the Highlands a pleasant surprise in terms of nightlife and quality of girls. It seems as though more tourists go there for weekends to visit the Highlands. DS feel free to comment or drop me a PM for more info

DS

Don't listen to the gossip of the "Touristy" Edinburgh, sure we do have them, but have far more students/immigrants/younger folks than anything else. Especially red-heads!! Hope you read Courage Reborns thread! Think thats what your after!!

As for Accomodation:

Here's a few I found on a 2 min search tonight.

£585
http://www.gumtree.com/p/1-bedroom-rent/...1089386293

£625
http://www.gumtree.com/p/1-bedroom-rent/...1013341504

£535
http://www.gumtree.com/p/1-bedroom-rent/...1016119452

3 of them just outside west end, 10 min walk to Haymarket.

Or...

East side of town centre, 2 min's from Leith Walk

£575
http://www.gumtree.com/p/1-bedroom-rent/...1106646715

Offer them £50 more per month, then ask for 3 month lease, explaining your position.

If your leaving by August, they can then get festival let's or new intake of students.

Hope this helps.

Is it off topic for me to stick up for Dublin a little bit here? I'll go ahead anyway [Image: smile.gif]
My dad is Irish and I have been visiting the country for years. It's not a destination country by a long way but there are a million worse places to visit. I would say for sure that Dublin is the only liveable city in Ireland, Dublin itself is small but the other cities are tiny. Dublin is 4-5 times bigger than the next city Cork, Cork in turn is 5 times bigger than Galway. Cork is good fun during University season but is dead for the rest of the year. After a month, you will start seeing the same faces on nights out.

I think the bad aspects of Dublin have been covered but in my opinion some of the positives have been missed. First off Dublin has improved a lot in the last two to three years, during the recession times (2008-2012) Dublin was very grim and the city had little atmosphere, Ireland (and Dublin in particular) has rebounded much better than the other European countries that were in crises. The atmosphere isn't quite like the Celtic tiger days but it's almost like a different city to what I experienced in 2010.

Dublin is also a great Tinder city, i'd say my match rate in Dublin is at least double that of other western cities. There is also a ton of South American (mostly Brazilian) women on Dublin tinder, I'm not exaggerating when I say that about 1 in 10 of my Dublin tinder matches are from SA.

Dublin also has a genuine 7 day a week nightlife and with Copper Face Jacks, it's one of the few cities in the world that has a big club that everyone who wants to hook up goes to. It couldn't be easier, you go to a large venue that has a crowd every night and everyone there wants to score. Granted the ratio's aren't ideal and the standard isn't exactly like XS in Vegas (to say the least!) but I have (on one occasion) banged an 8 from coppers, a few 7's and more than my fair share of 5's and 6's, usually with a big pair of milky Irish tits! There are also a myriad of other bars, pubs and clubs to choose from. The nightlife is sloppy, low key and good fun with plenty of potential.

Don't get me wrong, most of the posters have a point in their criticisms. On average Irish women are not good looking and can be among the most cutting in their rebuttals (particularly to Americans). The men are probably better looking, or at least in better shape, than the women so the odd's won't be in your favour. The weather sucks essentially 12 months of the year and unlike everywhere else in Europe, you need to catch a flight for a decent weekend break. It's not Eastern Europe by a long shot but at the same time I wouldn't be cursing my luck if I was sent there for work for 6 months.

Best city for 3-6 months gaming in Ireland or Scotland?

I've lived in Glasgow 7 years and Edinburgh 5 years and was actively gaming in both, out around 5-6 nights per week in both.

Hands down it has to be Edinburgh, better quality lots of uni students and tons of tourists from all over the world which was where I had the best results but the students and others in the city also were up for meeting a new guy.

After around 6 months if you are going out a lot you will start to run into the same people over and over but you should compensate for this by then with a good social circle and regular hangouts that work well for you.

Friday and Saturday nights are best but there are select places busy on most other nights of the week - day game with tourist girls is very viable also and they are in general receptive to meeting new people.

Much better in spring/summertime due to longer hours and better weather and there's a festival every August which goes on for around a month which attracts huge numbers of tourists with lots of venues opening up just to cater for them along with later opening hours thought the city - you really have to make sure you are there at this time as its a goldmine I got almost 1 girl per night during the festival vs 1 per week or two outside of it.

I'm not going to go over Glasgow as imo it's a worse option but if you are interested in considering it I can post more about it.

Feel free to hit me up with any questions as I know both cities intimately from a game perspective.

Best city for 3-6 months gaming in Ireland or Scotland?

In Glasgow today. The apartment I am looking at here is 10 minutes walk West of Byres Rd. Seems like a lot of the good venues in Sauchiehall or closer to center are going to be too far to walk a girl back. Like 30 to 40 minutes walk. On the other hand the flat I'm looking at in Edinburgh is 15 minutes walk Northeast of dead center, just on the eastern edge of New Town. Better logistics? I'm a big walker so if Edinburgh nightlife is more concentrated but still bustling that's a big plus on its favor.

People in Glasgow keep saying there's more nightlife in Glasgow due to its larger size. And they say they are more down to earth than Edinburgh people. I'll see about it tomorrow.

Nightlife here seemed dead tonight besides small groups of friends. I'm not sure where all the students are / were. But it's a Monday what can I really expect.

I did find glaswegians very friendly. Had some good conversations on the street, got FB from a girl working at a grocery who gave me venue advice, plans to meet up and become friends if I stay in this city. Bartenders were also friendly.

Best thing though by far is maybe 1/4 or 1/5 at least of girls here have huuuge booties. Not fat, but huge booties. Very pleasing to me after living in Poland.

Welcoming thoughts.

Both locations good, for Glasgow would recommend near byres road or near Ingram St. For Edinburgh near George st is idea. For venues outside thurs/fri/sat you have to find a specific place that is busy that night eg some places have a salsa night, student night etc. on certain days and the other venues will be quiet. Things liven up in general over the summer with more tourists and people going out more, and as I mentioned Edinburgh in August is stupendous. I've lived in a bunch of locations all throughout both cities, would recommend George St for best concentration of quality, Glasgow you will get a lot more working class girls, some will be hot but worse dressed and worse manners etc.

You don't think there's truth to the idea that Edinburgh people are more snobby / stuck up Munch? You think girls are same easiness in both cities or one is easier than the other?

Best city for 3-6 months gaming in Ireland or Scotland?

Ok I'm going to have to generalise here. My personal thoughts - Glasgow is basically lower status so more primal gaming with wasted chicks (assertive/fun etc) and many girls on a night out have traveled from the outskirts and will have to take a long taxi home with friends. So this can work if the girl likes you she may stay over but generally logistics are worse and quality is lower. A lot more trouble in bars so people are more outgoing but there's an undercurrent of wariness. So in Glasgow much harder to befriend bouncers and staff etc as they are sick of drunk rude customers and fights etc.

Edinburgh good to focus on high value, social proof etc. So if you have some genuine value either intelligent or well travelled or interesting job etc you can have some great interesting conversations and value will be noticed. Girls dress better so if you like nicely and classily dressed girls and you like to dress good yourself you will like it more. Glasgow high fashion for men is basically expensive sportswear and for girls short skirts and prom dress style outfits.

Glasgow you can get knocked back from entering clubs for weird reasons - an example - one night I went out with Cajun who was in the 'keys to the vip show', he got knocked back because 'his eyes looked glazed' and he was sober, as I said a strong subcurrent of genuine wariness as there is a lot of violence and trouble in the city - one of the least safe places ive lived or been to. Edinburgh you can befriend door staff easily and they can recognise well dressed people and value so that takes care of that issue.

The snobbyness accusation is basically because many people from Glasgow are genuinely low status and display it in many ways so they feel inadequate when going to a nice place in Edinburgh.

Some funny stuff around this for example sometimes I was rolling with high value guys eg rich plastic surgeons, CEOs etc and almost all girls didn't believe what we did for a living to the point where we gave up and just made up some stupid menial jobs that we did. In Edinburgh can have a good conversation around this and many girls will already know people of higher status or someone we know etc so it's a non issue.

In terms of easiness if you have some class or value or good conversation you will do best in edinburgh, if you like to be aggressive and caveman, joke around loudly and can handle drunk rowdy girls you will do better in Glasgow.

Hmm. I definitely don't pull girls using aggressive game, or rowdiness, don't really pull girls at clubs (though I might bring a girl to dance for a date). I have lower / medium energy game, not life of the party at every pub. I daygame / friendship game (have a lot of female friends and some of them become infatuated), and if I nightgame I usually just get contact info and go for d2 or d3. Girls who reject me romantically become friends for when I don't have anything lined up with a girl who is fucking me or who is new. So openness to friendship / social circles is important factor as I don't pull ONS with strangers at clubs.

I have a lot of money but I'm frugal and it doesn't look that way. Henley, chinos, open blazer jacket. Not suited up. Also pretty short though I doubt it makes a difference as far as city I pick.
