Where to live in Paris

Hey guys, its very possible I get an engineering internship next month in Paris, I would be working in Issy-les-Moulineaux or Montreuil depending which offer gets confirmed...both places are accessible by metro however, it is difficult for me to find accomodation as I don't know the city very well..I was wondering if its good to rent a place there or better off going to arrondissement 15 or 11-12 depending on the place.. The metro station for Montreuil is St-Mandé on line 9, Issy Moulineaux only one line, line 12... don't remember the exit but Id like to stay not too far from this line.
What should I expect to spend if I live in those places..is it possible to find cheaper students residences? Also..I'm fluent in French and I lived in Lille long enough to know that I'm ok with french girls however they are not my favorites..anyone know cool places for foreigners to hang out or tourists?

Last time I was in Paris, I stayed in an AirBnB in Montreuil.
Too far out, not a great choice of food, girls more social circle inclined than most of Paris. (That's the last station on line 9)
St Mande is on line 1 however.
I'm a 12arr sort of guy.
TO be honest, if you don;t know, no one can tell you. paris a great thay way, each Arrondissement has its own flavour.
I'd had a view to rent in short periods, moving from place to place until you find what you like.

I'm from Paris so I can help you.
Firstly, the most important, what's your budget? It will give the most important information about where you will be able to live.
Secondly, Paris is a small city if you compare to London or New-York. Wherever you will live, you won't be so far from your work as far sa you have subway around. Subway is made in Paris that to go to point B from A in the worst case you will change lines twice. In most case it is one change. Even if you live in the other side of Paris, it will take 30min to go to work.
Montreuil had a bad reputation some time ago, mostly black people from Malia living there and a city led by communist mayor for ages. Still now I think. Since a couple of years it has changed and it becomes more and more kind of arty city. Still, you have very bad area. As a foreigner, I will avoid to live here.
Best districts for students : 4,5,6
More expensive one (I mean, >1000€ for a studio): 7,8, 16
Family oriented districts: 13,14,15,17
Worst areas in Paris (crime, drugs, etc.): North parts of 17,18,19,20
Chinese districts (south east asia, Laos, Cambodgia): 13
Actual Chinese from China district: part of 19 and 20
Black area : part of 8 and 9
Arab area: part of 9,10,18,19
My favorite is the 17th, as I was born here, I just enjoy it.

I lived in the 11th, it's a good area for nightlife.
Oberkampf, république and bastille are all there, and it will be more affordable than the Lower arrondissements. Getting a über to any of these places from anywhere you'll want to go out in the city shouldn't be more than €15 and they're well connected by the metro.
The 6 and 7 are nice to walk around but more expensive and during the nights are quite quiet with less late places open than the 11. Though there is certainly enough to keep you busy there.
The third is quite touristy, the 4th is very beautiful. It contains le marais which is the gay neighborhood, but this doesn't dominate the scene there completely and it is well situated
The 12, I never really heard about anyone going out there. However any of the Lower arrondissements and you really can't go wrong if you are central and near a metro stop.
But the 11 is good as it is east toward Montreuil.

You mean the oberkampf-parmentier area no ?
I dont really like it ,it s a bit too young crown with lot of small bars and really overcrowned (UFO) .
Bastille with badaboum ,café de la presse , panic room But for godsake AVOID bar in rue de lappe .it just surround by thug on week end.
Southpi (pigalle area), have many bars there with tourist but really hipster crowned around dandy ,chez moune
AVOID to walk on the boulevard clichy on week end ,lot of thug there and folies pigalle ,it just shitty club
But the best place to get laid for me is wanderlust/nuba with some pretty tourist on summer time .
More easy going french girl are in rosa bonheur concorde ,butte chaumont one is more group oriented .
If u looking for British girl ,they always around grand boulevard in irish Pub (Corcourant/Osullivan) or u can try in 19 distric ,point ephemere because there is a big hostel next to it
Btw right now ,the best party is at la concrete on sundays .
If u want more posh club ,go to la maison blanche or silencio .

Yep. Rent in Paris is ridiculously high.
Also you haven't mentioned your preference. Studio or a 2 pieces/3 pieces? With or without roomates? Without those info it's impossible to narrow your choice,

This is simply impossible due to the above. Anything from 4-6th arrondissement is ridiculously expensive. And space is very limited too.

I live near Portes d'Orleans in the 14th. Fucking awesome place. You have everything there and rent is much cheaper. Transportation is also ideal with line 4 and RER B and Tram 3 running through.
If you plan on gaming heavily get something in the 13-15th, close to the major metro line like 4,7 and 6. Make logistic easier.
I can't understand why you would want to live near oberkamp. It's great for nightlife but the noise, dirtiness and price is unbearable. Live in Paris and go hang in Oberkamp

I rented a studio close to Place de la Bastille..my indemnities will cover the rent cost so I should be ok in that department. It is super super expensive indeed.
I should have had a look in the Crous residences but fuck it..I'm had a flat since I was 20 years old (except when in Grenoble) and I'm not looking back.
