Electric Skateboards

I just bought one. it's really fun [Image: tard.gif]

I am not a skater type person at all. I think I am too old to do that anyways.

I ran into youtube videos and I liked how it looks just like skateboards but it's powered by motor (I am so lazy. how do people get around by kicking the pavement all the time.)
I bought a segway before. I rode in the parking lot few times, never rode in public before I got rid of it because I didn't want to get embarrassed.

This one is a lot stealthier. People notice something is different by hearing electric motor sound, when you keep moving without kicking and going up the hill.
But it doesn't look dorky at all like segway.
(there is really cool one called 'Air Wheel' but this one will draw lots of attention and I don't think I can use that unless I live in a place like SF)

When I was visiting cities, I didn't like walking too much but with this, I can get around pretty much all over the city. I can't wait to go to Portland with this.

Anyways, the one I have is Yuneec which is the most affordable one out there.
If you got some money, I would wait for Marbel which looks pretty slick.
If you want to ride on dirt, I would get Evolve which has tires.

By the way, anyone has a technology background for a product like this? I am thinking about making my one and selling it (I talked few chinese manufacturers and the way they do business seemed just insane to me.)

Electric Skateboards

Those are pretty cool. I bought a regular skateboard when I arrived in Lima. After being here 3 days I realized everything was flat and paved so I bought a skateboard and it was the best decision I ever made (little bit of exaggeration) I love it though, I feel like a kid again. I just grab my skateboard and skate out to the park to game girls... I haven't done this since I was 16.

If I wasn't traveling around so much I would look into buying one of these electric skateboards.

One word: BOOSTED! Prior to touting this product, I'll qualify: 60 this year, have been skating for 55 years and I'm still actively surfing/snowboarding/skating (bowls/skateparks/etc.) I've been watching this niche market for a while, waiting until someone got it right. Boosted Boards as truly built a better mousetrap - these boards are head & shoulders above anything else on the market. I've had mine for about 6 weeks, and cannot get enough of riding it. My hilly LA neighborhood has become my "de facto asphalt ski resort" and I sit at my desk thinking about Boosting after work! This fucker FLIES - it's like a Hoverboard, the torque is out of this world!

The Dual+ is about $1,700.00 USD out the door - not cheap, but I've since bought ANOTHER one. Like Jet Skis - you need two of these to really enjoy riding with your friends! I'm also stoked that my afternoon sessions are now doubled in length now that I have two fully-charged boards! If you have any questions about Boosted Boards, please hit me up! [Image: smile.gif]

What's the top speed? what's the range?

mine only goes 12mph on a flat road. It is fast enough on sidewalk when I pass other people. it's not fast enough on a bike lane with other bikers and cars passing right by.
On a moderate hill, it really slows down. If it's bit steep hill, it moves like walking speed.

You can ride this kind of like snowboard. going zig zag and carve around on a Flat surface (you can't do that with just long board obviously)

Overall, I can't complain since I paid $500. this should be fun to use around the city (def not SF though)

With your setup, you can drive around places like Laguna beach hills or West hollywood hills. That would be pretty sweet.
Electric bike could be similar but standing on the board, turning your head around to enjoy the scenery gives you totally different experience.

I am going to put gopro on the board to film while travelling around the city as well.

Maybe I should holler at you when I go to LA haha.

Nothing beats skating around town pushing with your own power, carving sidewalks and grinding curbs. Leave the segway and long board action for the herbs. Its not skateboarding.

Yeah if you are a kid.

I don't want to wear DC shoes & other skateboard related brand clothes and ride around the town.

I wouldn't mind longboarding in parks, beach boardwalk or hills but I don't want to ride around the city like I don't have a car.

Downhill longboarding is sick but I think you need buddies and I don't feel like approaching 17 year old boys to be friends.

When I mention about 'hey I just got a skateboard' to grown up women, they give me LOL? look. I explain it's an electric and I bought it to travel around the city.

Sebastian: It reaches top speeds of 22 mph on flat, and much faster coasting downhill - the range is 6 miles on a 90 minute charge. It goes approximately 17-19 mph up hills to about a 25% grade - and yes, I can make it up or down the steepest of hills on the Boosted. BTW, Boosted is THE lightest board on the market (15 lbs.) and it is the only commercially available DUAL-DRIVE board - absolutely crucial.

Vaun: So it's "not skateboarding"? Considering I was likely skating decades before you were even a gleam in your daddy's eye (I have been skating CONTINUOUSLY since 1961 - 54 years) and STILL actively skating vert/parks - I'm not worried about hipsters telling me that Boosting is somehow not "core". Tell that to the vert LEGENDS who come over to my home in order to ride these bad boys such as Salba, Hackett, etc. - they'll laugh in your face. You see, Vaun - these boards do something that NO core skater can EVER do - carve UPHILL. Until you've experienced it, you have no idea what you're talking about...just sayin'.

22 mph is pretty fast! I bet it can get dangerous if you fall off at that speed? (I can just run off the board at 12 mph lol)

I choose not to use the bike lane since it feels slower riding by cars. But it feels a lot faster on sidewalks.
I am sure you can keep up with commuting bicyclist.

I took it too paved bike trail. It was barely moving going up hills. So it's useless on hilly trails or neighborhoods.
But I can't complain for $500 bucks.

In fact, I bought another one. So when I go to Portland and Seattle, I can switch it after one dies or find a girl to ride with me.

If you really want to explore the city in and out, you need this.
I've lived here for 10 years but never bothered to walk around behind the buildings (why would anyone)
Since it was effortless to move around with this, I rode around between & behind buildings and found some graffitis and rustic areas that would be nice as a photo shoot background.
If you are photographer who are looking for cool spots, it will make your job 10x easier.

I bought this gopro mount to film the city. You can just clip on the board.

I think it would be very jittery since the board will pick up any impacts. I am looking for a stabilizer but haven't found one that can be mounted yet. (there are many good ones for a hand)

Sebastian: You definitely don't want to have to "run off" the board at speeds above 16 mph; the key with these boards (much like with snowboarding) is that as long as you stay on top of the board, you'll be ok. I've had to Coleman Slide ONCE when my Bluetooth remote inexplicably lost connection (made them swap the entire Board Two/remote as I'd bought two, and they couldn't tell me "these things happen" - as it never happened with Board One). I never use the sidewalks in my 'hood - I don't want to give the "Andy of Mayberry" local cops any reason to consider banning electric skateboards. I wear a helmet and skate knee-pads always - probably wouldn't do so if I were simply using it to commute to work, go to the local store, etc. - but I'm hauling ass up and down steep hills when I boost, and at almost 60 I can't afford to make stupid mistakes like falling without pads. GoPros nicely capture the thrill of boosting - I usually clip mine to the front of my helmet, and then film keeping awareness of jerky head movements. SO much fun! [Image: smile.gif]

Do you ride it like regular longboard (kicking the ground) to save the battery? It doesn't travel far like longboard because of the motor. I am also not sure if it can damage the motor. I haven't tried very steep hill since the brake is not powerful enough and those Coleman slide like techniques can damage the board.

On V-day, I met up with a girl I am dating. I brought penny board for her since it looks cute on girls.

She doesn't snowboard or haven't tried skateboard. she couldn't kick the ground and get on the board.

This thing was a lot easier for her. So I ended up riding penny board. I was getting tired so I asked her to pull me by grabbing my hand.
It was so much fun!

Next day, I brought two electric ones and we rode separately around the city. I think this is the best date idea ever.

We had so much fun and she loved it.

Obviously electric skateboard is not like jet ski you can use to pick up girls. (she might come out for fun even though she is not that into you)

But if she already has some interests in you, you can have so much fun with her. I am talking about average indoor girls who doesn't do mountain biking, surfing, snowboarding etc.
