Where are you guys getting your current events?

I'm seeing a lot of stories from my facebook feed popping up as new threads on the forum.
It can't be a coincidence [Image: dodgy.gif]

Are you guys just reposting facebook shit or do you actually read other sources, news, websites etc?

This is economic/political news from the Austrian school of economics perspective: http://mises.org/blog

Similar to the above, can be a little sensationalist, I would appreciate a more balance tone, but much better than the MSM. http://www.lewrockwell.com/lrc-blog/

Economics/Political commentary from a reasonable guy: http://globaleconomicanalysis.blogspot.com/

Personally I wouldn't watch any of the MSM stuff. You really can't tell how much of it is true and how much has a major, major slant. The left is more guilty of this than the right, but there is still a slant in stuff like drudgereport, fox news, etc. I have come to the conclusion that most of the stuff on TV is designed to control you, not inform you. People should draw their beliefs from real experience, but it seems like the belief system of the average American has been designed and then shoe-horned into their minds deliberately. Everyone is so paranoid because everyone KNOWS that people are being serial killed and raped constantly, even though they have never personally experienced anything more violent than a minor bar fight, if even that.

EDIT: Forgot to add Peter Schiff: https://www.youtube.com/user/SchiffReport
The guy was spot on about the housing crisis and several other major events. Not all his predictions are accurate, but they are pretty good.

I've find myself more attracted to traditional print media these days since it isn't as heavily afflicted with clickbait.

BBC is as good as it gets for an overall picture of the world. You miss certain stories but everyone does.

I know that it isn't perfect and that there are stories that they should cover, but as far as understanding the world generally, they are less biased than others, and fairly comprehensive.

Besides that, I don't really read or pay attention to the news, and my life is all the better for it. Maybe before I would have felt somewhat guilty about living mostly news-free, but that was when I still felt connected to society at large. These days I recognize that I am an outlier - and my habits should reflect that, for example, what I pay attention to in the world at large. I'm more interested in girls and my career/finances than world news.

Actually, I get some local news that I find interesting, for example new bike lanes or what's going on down the street.

But the other day when there was some talk about Eric Garner over lunch? I was lost, and used the time that I would have to discuss what a chokehold is, to instead discuss finance and stocks with an equities trader. As a result, my life personally is better and I will probably make more money, plus I gained a contact.

Also, reading the news becomes less important as you come to know about the world generally.

There's very little in the news anymore that genuinely surprises me, as with life generally. People very rarely ever surprise me anymore, and the same goes for the news.

I'd say that if you don't quite understand the world yet, read a bunch of news sources generally until you have a fairly good grasp of the modern world. Then read up on your history books and you'll see that the same things are happening today.

Then, you don't even really have to read the news anymore, because the same things keep happening. If it's really important, you'll hear about it in person.

It depends though. It can be important to keep up with world events for financial reasons, if you're in the stock market. Or for use as social lubricant with acquaintances and colleagues.

I most certainly don't get any news from Facebook friends - all of my friends I have unfollowed, meaning their news feeds don't appear in mine. This saves me time reading up on useless shit that has no effect on my life.

Due to the nature of my education and profession, I'm required to keep abreast of current political and economic news, nationally and internationally. In addition, for pure interest, I do read literary and film reviews as well as keep up to date to with tech news and developments.

I follow Financial Sense by Puplava and I am subsribed to his podcast service where he interviews expert analysts and fund managers. What I like about Pulava is that he is balanced. Many analysts just take one position - perma-bull or perma-bear (e.g., zerohedge). Puplava interviews analysts with different points of view so that you end up with a more balanced view of the economy. And he interviews serious analysts in the financial industry. He covers a variety of subjects and it helps me increase my knowledge of investing and the economy.

I also read the Financial Times every day. You can read most of the articles for free by copying the title into Google and pulling up the link.

I also don't read Drudge Report anymore. The reason is that he sensationalizes headlines leading to an inaccurate perception of the news event. He also likes to put up gross pictures to capture eyeballs. I have developed zero tolerance for any kind of distortion or bias in my news. I want to read a true account and if I can't get it then I am just not going to look at news anymore.

Al Jazeera English, their international service, is very good. I prefer it to Al Jazeera America.
