Ok, so maybe "banned" is excessive but I was thinking we could have an advisory to limit use of certain words in forum posts.

For example, my suggestion is to not use the word "rando".

As a side benefit, this could serve as a troll tripwire.

Are there words that grate on you when you see them in a post?

There is a bullet point in the forum rules thread...

It states - do not use text speak.

Yep.

Things I've come across just in the past day:

"don't feel safe"

"kind of important"

"freaking amazing sex"

"kind of dicks"

and starting a post with

"Hey guys".

All of these, and the like, grate very badly. I don't like it when men, or at least posters claiming to be men, write like girls or faggots.

same old shit, sixes and sevens Shaft...

^I agree with that one, I don't get how "kind of important" fits in here though.

Wow, really?? Banning words and phrases? Here's why that's a problem.
You guys just don't get that this is meant to be a safe space for a diverse group of people. Banning their rando words is just a dickish kind of move and makes me feel uncomfortable.

Words/phrases I can't stand in social media:

"Wow. Just wow.": I'm sure I don't have to explain that one.

"terrifying": Dismemberment, insanity, and prison are terrifying to men. A nasty comment about a female actress is terrifying to social media typists, apparently.

"Watch X explain Y": Do they only understand things when celebrities talk slowly to them?

"awareness": If the only defense of a stupid waste of time post is that it spreads awareness, skip it.

Thought this was going to be about the words SJW's ban, like "bossy".

"Epic". Still hearing this one.

It's fine if the situation calls for it. "She gave me an epic blowjob." Blowjobs can be epic. I'm okay with this.

Hyperbolic speech in general grates on me.

"We went to this bar the other night, the cocktails were ri-DIC-ulous."
"The hazelnut-chicory cronuts are amaze-balls"
"Have you seen the new Scorsese flick? UN-believable" (said with eyes rolled back while saying 'unbelievable')

"...so I gave her an STD, and she STILL wanted to bang me."

It's a fun, playful way to refer to girls as what they are--sexual playthings not to be taken seriously--without the harsh literalism of "sluts."

One of my favorite pieces of vernacular.

I use it purposefully to piss off SJW's, as in "We need a safe space for men from feminists."

I like the word and its use but in serious discussions it has no merit.
