I'm considering proposing to my girlfriend
In all seriousness what are the 6 degrees in social sciences?
Let's say B.A., M.A., PhD. and a second M.A. for some reason?
It's highly atypical which is why it's confusing

Doesn't prove it's you. I could link to Ashton kutchers twitter right now.

So you have 6 B.A. 's? Or 6 co-majors.. something like that?
OP's defensiveness is a classic female trait.
Only a woman would flaunt social science degrees as an achievement.

Being single for me is incredibly hard on my health, as I’ll stay out, drink often, and put myself at risk for STDs. I’ve already had multiple scares for various infections, and am still currently getting some sorted out. It’s not fun. I’ve somehow dodged herpes, but it’s sketch thinking that it’s possible I could have HPV, and not know."
I'm going to be pretty blunt here, because you asked for advice and you deserve to get it. I'm reading this as "I don't have my shit together, and I want to chain myself to someone else because it will stop me from making bad decisions." I hope you're mature enough to realize that the answer is to stop making poor decisions rather than try to drag someone else into your life and hope it magically makes your situation improve. If you're making bad decisions now, you're going to continue making bad decisions in the future, but it will be a different set of bad decisions, with potentially worse consequences.
Bingo.

But of course it makes sense that you would try to lock down at least one aspect of your life. You chose marriage-- which is typically what girls do when they're looking to be taken care of, to be defined by someone else. Right?

guy self-describes as "incredibly young"?
guy says I'm thinking of "being engaged", vs. asking "I'm thinking of proposing"?
guy categorizes woman as "relationship material" ?
A guy saying "relationship material" is a like a guy saying "randos"... they don't.

Let me get this straight.
You don't make much money.
You live in Los Angeles.
You have a problem with alcoholism and partying.
You live in Los Angeles.
You have a bunch of useless degrees.
You want to go back to school for education.
You can't afford to go back to school.
Your answer is to get married.
Have you ever considered living in a city and going to a school that you can afford?
Seems like moving out of LA and going to a trade school would solve 99% of your problems.

I make 40,000 a year at my primary job,
I see roughly 30,000 of that
My monthly expenses are
700 rent (not that much more expensive than other places)
300 vehicle/insurance
300 health insurance
100 student loans
200 food
50 phone
50 gym
200/medical payments (had a bad trip to the ER)
100/to kind of have a life
200 gas
2200/mo expenses
Moving would lower my rent by 200 at most, but would drop me out of my job.
Trade schools here are a racket, I'd be better of redoing public school in Computer Science, but that'd take a few years - http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_24041125/p...te-student

My initial reaction is 6 months is too short and you are too young...Also, consider the following checklist:
- cooking skills: really important (under appreciated), even if you are a great chef she should know how to cook and enjoy it.
- health: does she eat well? exercise? is this a part of her daily routines?
- history: history of partying? how many sex partners approximately? Less is better obviously.
- cleaning/ household maintenance skills: she should not see this as a chore rather as part of life.
- interest and skills in child rearing: she should want them and have some idea how to raise them. Extra points if her parents did a good job.
- interest in your family, culture, and religion, better yet, should be same as yours if possible
- she should be younger than you
- main question: is she going to make your life easier or harder? Are you going to be more successful in your life and career with her? Is she a liability or an asset for your future?
And she should be the one pushing for marriage not you.
My girlfriend passes all those test and more with flying colors.... I left her in America and moved to Peru.

Well for someone with 6 degrees.... I'd like to assume you would be smart enough to get her whatever size ring she wears.
