Women Gets Snagged by Sex Harassment Law Designed to Protect Women

This, my friends, is what happens when you push for law after law. You or your allies eventually wind up ensnared by those very laws.

One of the most progressive (and wealthiest) counties in the country, Howard County, Maryland, has a very active Human Rights group and, as such, has bunch of laws on the books about sexual harassment.

Back in June, a female board of education member, Cindy Vaillancourt, was addressing a group of parents and students and casually asked "Did you know that you have to be 18 to buy condoms?"

Sound harmless? It wasn't. The very mention of mere condoms connoted sex -- sex!!!!! -- and it sent one of the students present and his parents into a frenzy so they filed a sexual harassment complaint just discovered by the Baltimore Sun via a public information request.

I don't know whether they were really offended or trying to prove a point, but they're really fucking with this woman. They're asking for a public apology and assurances that "another student will not have to experience the discomfort that our son had to undergo."

It gets better: after an investigation through the Office of Equity Assurance (whatever the hell that is), they found that Vaillancourt had, in fact, violated the board's sexual harassment policy because she made "a sexually offensive comment to a male student that was unwelcomed and inappropriate."

If this sounds familiar, it's because this is the type of bullshit men have to deal with -- a complete encroachment on basic freedom of speech that redefines that speech as somehow "offensive."

But it was women who wanted invasive rules like this. Now they have them. I hope they're happy.

Special note to feminists who are reading this: I hope all of you who are looking to get fraternities banned from campuses and writers fired from their jobs think twice because one day you might also find yourselves a victim of the unfree society your are helping to create.

Here is a picture of the sexual harasser in question and a link to the full story. If anyone knows that old Elvis Costello song "Shot With His Own Gun," now is the time to play it.

Nice troll job by the family. I'd love to dress up as a woman and force my way into a "female only" joint. Then claim trans discrimination.

Easiest way to fight them is to beat them at their own game.

I hope she gets put on a sex offender registry. Just desserts. Pun intended.

The only question starting with ,"Did you know.." that should get you sexual harassment complaints is, "Did you know I haven't had my dick sucked since Tuesday?"

Wow, I would've thought this was coming from a fundamental Christian if I didn't think progressive attitudes were pretty much the same

Yeah, the family complaining were probably religious conservatives. Fundamentalists and feminists have been allies of convenience before.

Seems bizarre to me, is she an elected official? The rule is they have the right to say whatever they want in meetings.

What a stupid case. I don't like this "fight fire with fire" shit. We'll all just be caught up in this nonsense.

They need to fire her. And strip her pension, take her house.

I'm so sick of this "ugly-lady-says-gross-things culture" we have in America.

I've been saying for years that we need to use the laws, regulations, language, theories and institutions that Cultural Marxists have set up against them. Not because we agree with them, but rather as a way to use their own weapons of civilizational destruction to defend ourselves and wreck their project.

That's exactly what they did to traditional society with great effect; just look for example at the way the Constitution has been utterly perverted to serve SJW causes.

We should be throwing monkey wrenches into the gears of their destruction machine on a daily basis

The problem with that is that once we use them, we legitimize those laws
They won't be taken off the books, instead, they'll be expanded

Wouldn't it be kind of worth commenting on if the stores were requiring you to be 18 to buy condoms?

The real villain of this story (aside from the wimpish or religious fanatic parents) is the manager of the Office of of Equity Assurance, Rebecca Salerno.

Salerno's an employee of the school system that the Board of Education governs.

Vaillancourt was elected by the people of the county. Who's got the mandate?

Not only does Salerno have a complete misunderstanding of sexual harassment law and the Constitution, she's subverting democracy by attacking an elected official's right to speak out on matters of concern.

I hope the tide turns and Salerno's little Stalinist ruling gets her head bit off.

That's correct. The idea is to expand them to the point of absurdity. As of now the laws almost entirely go one way- they are used by SJWs against their enemies. We need to overwhelm them with their own laws and make them suffer the consequences of the rules they impose on others.

Every Human Rights Commission-city, state, or federal should have to deal with roomfuls of file cabinets filled with complaints similar to the OP. Universities should face weekly formal complaints by male students regarding hate speech and discrimination by feminist professors and students. Corporations that give money to SJW groups or enact their policies should be hit with discrimination suits filed by men, whites and heterosexuals, and face public shaming and boycotts.

Edit: the latest SJW tools of totalitarian control-"triggers" and "microaggressions" may prove to be extremely useful in our cause. With a little imagination, endless ways could be found to parody them and cause them trouble. What if a young man happens to have been abused by a female relative who was a strident feminist, and any mention of feminist talking points causes him to "literally shake" with fear and anger? He deserves protection doesn't he?

Conservative Christians learned how to do this years ago and they have had many successes in fighting for their rights and rolling back blatantly anti-Christian policies by institutions. We should do the same.

At the same time, we should be arguing against these laws and pointing out their absurdities, injustices and socially harmful effects. There is no contradiction; we can and should do both.

black knighting recognized.

the usual obstacle to tactics like this is that courts and administrative bodies avoid holding women/minorities to the same standard as men/the majority when enforcing these bizarre policies. not this time i guess.

I live in this area and it's not at all Christian or conservative -- it's one of the heaviest Democratic strongholds in the state. The people complaining are most likely Democrats. The region encompasses the town of Columbia, MD, a planned which was built on very progressive ideals.

I agree with SP5 that the manager of the Office of of Equity Assurance mishandled this. But the larger point is that so-called progressives have taken our society to the point where someone can say "condom" and then need a lawyer.

This is like something out of a Kafka story or Orwell novel. Or a nightmarish episode of "The Twilight Zone." Or the Soviet Union in the '70s. "Say the wrong word, lose your job."

We've seen this with journalists drummed out of jobs, and now it's flying back in the face of the elected officials who put these laws on the books.

"Vaillancourt said she plans to "fully and vigorously" defend herself in this matter, adding that she would be meeting with legal counsel Wednesday to discuss her options."

She has to pay $150 per hour because she said a word. Guess this is the "price" of a progressive society. Progress ain't cheap, people.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloward%E2%...n_strategy

The cloward piven strategy is quite similar to what you suggest MrXy. Its where a social activist would bog down an insitition with so much crap that it would fall apart, and could be replaced with a more socialist friendly version. Or as wikipedia states:

" called for overloading the U.S. public welfare system in order to precipitate a crisis that would lead to a replacement of the welfare system with a national system of "a guaranteed annual income and thus an end to poverty"."

I believe this was used to cause the sub prime housing crisis. Acorn was involved somehow, but I forget how they t managed to help cause it.
