Anti-Christian sentiment in Anglo countries

I know there we've quite a few members here from the UK, Australia, etc. so I figured this would be a good place to ask: why does it seem like that countries like the UK and Australia seem to have a high proportion of active atheists? By active atheists, I mean people who make their atheism a part of their identity and go out of their way to speak out against religion. I can understand why there would be blow back against Christianity in the United States due to how prevalent it is in our culture and it's influence on politics but I'm always hearing about how super secular the UK, Australia, and NZ are. I do realize that the UK does have a state church but they seem to mostly play a ceremonial role and they go of their way to be as non-offensive and uncontroversial as possible so I can't imagine them stirring up the same ire fundie Christians do in the US.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if there was actually more practicing Muslims then Christians in these countries so you would think if someone wanted to rid these societies of religion they would target Islam rather then the local CoE vicar drinking tea on his doorsteps.
