This phenomenon was already talked about by a lot of the asia expats. It's basically beta guys who come over and bang some easy 3-5's who are foreigner groupies and then talk it up like they banged an 8. Maybe in the U.S. that 3 they banged is inflated to a 6 but locally it's still a 3.

The guys I see with legit 7-10's are usually guys who would do just as well anywhere else including the U.S.

This is also what I was thinking. Singapore (and KL) airport is the gateway to the rest of Asia. If you worked there you could visit each of the surrounding countries in your breaks.

Exactly. I mentioned it based primarily on the basis of perceived work opportunity reasons.

I know of someone (friend of a friend) who did you described - based in Singapore for a high end job, and travelled extensively to everywhere else you'd want to in neighboring countries.

Doesn't mean to exclude anywhere else but my hunch is that is where jobs in the OP's field are - Sing., Shanghai, Hong Kong, or similar.

OP: Would it make sense to do your PhD at this stage?

This is spot on in my experience. You get guys moving from the US to Asia before they really even gamed in the US. They get to Asia and bang pretty mediocre girls who are down with foreigners. It's the first time in their life they ever got any attention. Then they go back and brag about how easy it was without going into the relevant details.

Also agree that guys who do well in the West do well in Asia or elsewhere. It's basically universal with maybe a slight improvement or decline depending on which country you are in. A guy who cannot pull a 3 or 4 in America typically cannot move to Asia and pull a 6 or above, or even a 5.
