Phnom Penh, Cambodia Data Sheet 2014

Phnom Penh Is a shithole. It literally smells like piss and shit in the streets in PP. I think from all of the tuktuk guys that sleep in their tuktuks and shit and piss on the streets. And then the hot weather amplifies the smell. Cambodia is an interesting country to visit for tourism. I had a good time. I didnt find the woman attractive so i never really tried game with any of them due to having standards...

I was there last summer. The street food is awful compared to the neighbor thailand. Though they have great 5 star restaurants for cheap. I was bit so many times by mosquitoes, and it was very hot. I wore an oversized gym singlet almost everyday and even sometimes at night due to the weather. (I would sweat through my shirt if i wore a shirt)

I did manage to pull a *decent* cambodian girl from a nightclub that wasn't a hooker. I would rate her a 5/10. And I would rate the average cambodian a 2/10. So she was one of the better looking cambodians but still not a girl i would be seen with in my home country.

I also went on a date with a cambodian girl from tinder. She took me to a "KTV" (where everyone takes turns singing in a private room. Its what friends in cambodia do on the weekends) with her friends. I did not find her attractive, I was catfished. So i simply just enjoyed myself with her and her friends.

It was an experience that created memories. But a country i will not visit again.

Whatever cambodia has, thailand has but better with similar atmosphere..

GO see Angkor Wat alone is worth it and there is huge backpacker scene there if you don't like the local women.

It was so cheap I had english speaking driver driving me around in a Lexus for $25 a day. He also took me to a KTV which was empty. It was FUN to have 30 girls hoping you will "pick" them.

Its not so bad, Just usual complaining as is constant in this forum

As above, Siem Reap has a huge backpacker scene if you want to stay in hostels and run social-circle game.

Cambodia is probably the one country in Asia I'm interested in visiting and probably the one place I would settle for an Asian woman (They're at the bottom of my personal preferences) Cambodia and Laos. Thanks for the post

If you like easy and plain backpacker girls then go to Siem Reap. Of course it’s second to Hanoi but you will still have a ball.

"I would settle for an Asian woman (They're at the bottom of my personal preferences)"

Sounds like that is going to be a short and unfulfilling relationship.
Plus, Asian girls are not stupid. Most will know immediately that you look down on them and probably treat you accordingly.

Settle for Asian woman isn't the equivalent to Asian wife. I may prefer wife touring than sex touring but if I get laid that's not something I would shy away from

Also I've met some Asian woman that are smart, but pretty gullible. Don't mistake book smarts for street smarts.

Lol you're going to have a rough time in Cambodia with that mentality.

Doesn't matter how rough a neighborhood you think you come back from home, most Khmers have had a family member tortured to death. You'll always be soft compared to them.

On the contrary, I never said you'd be the one doing the manipulating.

What's moronic is going to an Asian country while not fancying the women - and even worse - underestimating them.

If Cambodia had the economy and population of a place like Thailand, they'd be the hottest birds in Southeast Asia. And they're better in bed too (don't forget those belly chains...).

This is not a popular idea - most opinions are based on 2-3 days experience, in tourist areas. But it's true.

Not a playboy's paradise. You'll find fun, degeneracy, a good one if you want it and can control yourself.

But mainstream is still fairly conservative.

The economic opportunities there right now...unreal. I called that over 4 years ago when I still lived there, and it's more true than ever.

The "real" Cambodia (i.e long-term, actually experiencing it and digging in your muddy red boots) is a place for men who would have traveled internationally 100, 200 years ago, when leaving home was still difficult. Not that you need to be quite that tough, but you get the point. For a man looking for some adventure and the road less beaten it's a world of possibility.

Miss the hell out of Phnom Penh (most underrated city in Southeast Asia) and all my local folks there. Miss the hell out of the provinces too.

If anyone's still there toughing it out, I'll see you sometime this year.

Most opportunities now seem to be limited to wealthy Chinese

Make sure that you prepare yourself for the rolling blackouts that take place for five to six hours every day at.

I lived in Cambodia for 3 1/2 years before (Southeast Asia about 12 altogether, if you don't include a few long trips home) but thanks for the "tips."

As I said, Cambodia is a place for men who would have traveled internationally 100, 200 years ago, when leaving home was still difficult.

Like it or not, that doesn't include most men who travel or even live abroad these days - the majority do it because it has become convenient and comfortable to do so.

I pride myself on not being one of those men, so a need to be creative in an environment overrun with Chinese, or deal with rolling blackouts, hasn't dissuaded me from going anywhere and enjoying myself yet.

I love how so many guys in the manosphere have this illusion that they could have hacked it with our forefathers and want some old world utopia to be restored...yet take away their air con, their constant protection from police, their clean and sanitized surroundings, their relative guarantee of an easy and convenient life...even for less than a week to experience something different...

...And their buttholes shrivel closed and their lips curl up in holier than thou disdain, and they act like you just suggested they eat a turd off the sidewalk.

The great thing about Cambodia is exactly that it's a challenging place to be, and therefore intriguing and full of life lessons and experiences you won't find elsewhere. And because it's one of the remaining places just beginning the path towards modern development, an opportunity many of our forefathers would have slept in the bottom of a creaking ship for...

It is what it is.

A chaotic, full of surprises, completely mad, street smart but naive, and beautiful bubbling soup of raw humanity.

Drink up while you still can, chaps.

Just trying to be helpful and let you know the current situation.
I first lived in PP in '92 and had quite a few expat friends killed by the left over rag tags of the KR. Much of the Cambodian holocaust was actively funded by the Chinese.
Since then, I have spent many years living on the mainland and have returned as a Mandarin speaker with a very different perspective. A lot of guys still think that this is still a cheap alternative the Thailand. I just did not want you to make the same mistake.

^ Fair enough - apologies if I misjudged you and your experiences or intent then.

We get a lot of guys posting that think they're too high and mighty for places like the Philippines, Cambodia, etc, and always trying to "warn" the rest of us not to go or even ridicule those who travel or live in these places.

Hence my rant. [Image: tongue.gif]

What economic ‘opportunities’ are there? The Chinese are buying up the place and turning it into their colony.

If so, there are opportunities all over the place. If not, maybe you have been studying the wrong subjects for the last few years.

That is only half the story. China does not have a free-ride in Cambodia, as it does in Laos (where it simply pays the criminals in charge to do whatever it wants). Multinational companies are moving into PP in force because, as Beyond Borders indicated, it is a capitalist frontier market.

Multinational employees need places to live that are up to Western standards. So, you buy apartments downtown in the path of progress, upgrade the apartments to Western standards, and then rent to Westerners at higher yields -- until a developer buys you out (at a premium) to put up a high rise.

All the same opportunities that you saw on the mainland twenty years ago plus a few more. Property investment is a great example as explained above but there are also lots of hospitality positions available if you do not have the means to be an investor.
The casinos especially love to have a suitably obsequious white GRO just as they did on Cotai a few years ago.

What HSK level would you put yourself at?
