Removing shoulder padding from suits

Anyone do this?

I went into Suit Supply and they sell suits without shoulder padding. They look great. A week before this I bought a few new suits from Nordstrom, and they have the shoulder padding. I think it makes the suit look box'y, and dated.

I want to take them in to have the shoulder padding removed. Can this be done?

With respect to suits, I highly recommend styleforum.net and askandy

I did a quick google search for you.

https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=ch...%20PADDING

It isn't that the guys on here don't know about suits, etc. It is just that styleforum and askandy have been around for years and have a ton of useful info. And guys that seem to think about clothes as much as guys on here think about women.

Hope you find the answer you are looking for!

I am pretty sure you cannot remove the padding because you have have to get the shoulders completely remade. It would cost a fortune to remove the padding & may ruin the jacket.

the advice is all over the place. Suitsupply said its rarely done and they dont do it, Styleforum has lots of posts from people who have, and say its easy. I guess it depends on the taylor. Thanks for the suggestions.

The shoulders of a suit are like the foundation of a building. The way the suit hangs is largely dependent on their structure.

If you want a suit without shoulder pads, you should buy one that was designed without them in the first place.

I tried skinny suit at topmen. I have a regular shoulder and narrow waist but my shoulder looked too narrow. It looked worse than wearing just tshirts. Try one of those first

Another great haberdasher is Howard Yount. He's online, just Google him. His sport coats have no shoulder padding.

It depends on the suit, find a good tailor through referrals and ask him for his opinion as to the best option for the suit in question.
