Window or Aisle ?

When you fly, what do you prefer?

As I'm tall, aisle no doubt for short flights.

For a long haul where ill be sleeping, i often struggle with my choice..advantage of window/centre is that I won't be at mercy of my neighbours bathroom visits thereby waking me

Opinions?

I always go 1st Class/Business Elite when I fly on Delta Airlines for all long haul/Intermediate International Flights (5 hours and up). In those seats It doesnt matter If I get a window or an aisle because I can usuallr recline fully and lay back, sleep and eat and drink good and be well rested upon arrival.

I fly coach most of the time for domestic flights and in that case I like going with the aisle seats so I can stretch my legs out some but if I'm flying back to the west coast I always go with the window seat because the views flying into the California Coast Line (SFO/LAX) and NYC never get old to me.

If I'm tired I go for the window. If drinking in the airport the isle is a must cuz I'll have to pee at some point and hate stepping over people. Man I hate sitting bitch regardless. When I was in the military they would always sit me next to the emergency exit. The little extra leg room was nice.

Window only for me. If I'm not upgraded, I always get exit row, so it doesn't matter as you can leave your seat without waking anyone up.
Window seats, however, are colder - especially in the exit row.

Window seats, I always love having a view especially when landing and taking off. This summer in India I had to take some flights and it was pretty awesome looking at the monsoon thunderstorms and passing them by. On the way back we flew over Moscow in the middle of the night which was pretty beautiful. I always try to get window seats for planes and trains, mainly because I've always done so in India. My main guilty pleasure is chilling at the open door of a moving train which in India. Its just a helluva lot of fun to do that when a train is moving through scenic territory. Of course you have to be careful when doing that.

InternationalSwagger, how do you get first class/business class tickets? Aren't they extremely expensive?

Window during day flights since I like to see something. If it's nighttime, I prefer the aisle.

Always window. I like to have a view. Even if I drink a lot during the flight, I usually don't need to visit the bathroom much so that's not an issue for me. I agree with International Swagger than for long/international flights over 8 hours, it's best to go Business or First class. Last week, coming back from Thailand, from Abu Dhabi to Toronto, 16 hours in coach was a bitch and I made a mental note that from now on, I wouldn't fly coach on flights over 8 hours. It's just too damn tiring.

Yes those tickets generally are VERY expensive but I get upgraded all of the time since I have Diamond Medallion Status with Delta.

I wish I could roll business class. I mean I COULD but the price difference makes it quite a luxury. Just paid 1300 Toronto-Manila return whereas biz is 5600. Hard to swallow that extra $

I like the Aisle because of leg space. I m a bigger guy and my legs get restless. I use the aisle to stretch my legs out, plus its easier to go to bathroom, etc. I just find it more comfortable.

I do get Business class sometimes, but not often enough.

For the past few months, it's aisle for me. Before that I preferred the window but after so and so many flights, the excitement is gone to some extent. At the aisle, you are not trapped, can order stuff all the time and it's easier to chat with the flight attendants (although most of the time I seem to be stuck with old and/or ugly women or guys...especially in business class the flight attendants seem to be less fly).

Hey man, can you break down how that works, I'm a bit confused. If you reach a certain mileage threshold, you're entitled to free upgrades? Like right now I have 86,000 AAdvantage points on American Airlines. I know I could use them and go travel somewhere for free and then I'd be left with only like 20,000 remaining. Or can I join some sort of club that allows me free upgrades? How does this thing work?

One trick i use is to always check in late on even domestic flights, like maybe 10 min before boarding starts. Id say in china about 10-15% of all flights in china are overbooked, so its an automatic bump to those in the last few stragglers, which i get more often then seems normal, as well as less time queuing since there are always express counters and lines for people who are running late.

If i do have to get there early, i always go for the window, since i dont take flights less than 2 hours, and it is such a pain in the ass when you are seated next to the elderly couple who both piss every 5 min and you are trying to sleep. I sleep anywhere during transits, buses, planes, taxis, trains. Its a very good skill to pick up as someone who often travels.
