What vices should I give up for a month (shameless self promotion)

I wanted to share this with the forum because this place has always been kind of my go to place on the internet and one of the few places where people understand how I think and feel. It has also been a great tool for my self improvement and development as a person.

Long story short - I decided to give up a major vice for november. All 3 of these vices, in one way or another, are inhibiting my animalistic, primal drive

It will either be pot, masturbation, or "unnecessary media" (or all 3)

I was partially inspired by this wonderful post about giving up on current affairs by cardguy (http://www.rooshvforum.network/thread-29500.html), it made me realize that I am wasting too much of my time, energy and focus on unimportant things, that I am pacifying myself, and that I have grown complacent and uninspired.

I also decided to make it a little interesting - I put up a poll on my blog with these choices (or all 3, since im feeling really good about this) and I will stick to whatever the voters pick.

The poll is located here (along with more detailed reasons why i picked these 3) - http://kidstrangelove.wordpress.com/2013...-november/

I will update my blog with progress and updates on this throughout november, but I will not be visiting this forum because, as much as I love it, i know I will not be able to control myself and will spend hours ranting about feminism, indian guys, fat chicks, NYC parties. ((that is, of course, if unnecessary media or "all of the above" win)).

So wish me luck. This will be a hardcore self improvement month for me, and all of you incredible posters have served as a wonderful inspiration and an understanding ear when I needed to vent.

And my apologies for the blatant blog self promotion[Image: smile.gif]

Make pot the first to go.

Anyone who's seen my past posts should know I'm no stranger to wanton drug use. Thing is, is I've never made it a habit.

And the older I get, the more that I realize that successful people; whether they're rich, fit, brilliant, whatever, those successful people are the way they are because of habits.

Pot is great for the occasional head change. For bursts of creativity and thinking outside the box. But for any habitual use I think it's fucking terrible and is probably the biggest motivation-killer on your list.

I probably jerk-off too much so I can't say much there. While cutting yourself off from mainstream media is nice and all, I don't see it causing a major change. Maybe put alcohol in there as well? Give yourself a month with no pot, no alcohol, and see what happens.

My two cents.

I think you should replace a vice, not just quit.

Pick up a new hobby ie dancing, yoga, boxing etc etc etc

Masturbation, it changes you mentally and changes your lifestyle too.

I used to hard on Palmela, which only made me think about her again instead of doing other shit. Before you knew it, it took up my mind and time.

As soon as I stopped and started doing other stuff, the stuff started taking up my time and I'm less inclined to work my little solider.

Already votes for pot and masturbation, so I'll go ahead and vote for unnecessary media, especially television. Just cut out all the noise. You'll be amazed at what a difference that makes.

I disagree here. I think weed is actually the least harmful of the three.

Weed provides some degree of benefit if moderated whereas masturbation and unnecessary media do not.

Obviously if you're doing it first thing in the morning or midday it's going to hamper you.

But I find if I get my shit done and just take a hit or two when I'm winding down at night, I actually get a huge surge of energy and focus. It also allows me to de-stress to an extent.

EDIT: My vote would be for unnecessary media. I think that is the greatest time killer of the three and provides absolutely nothing in return.

Pot, especially if you smoke regularly. The only use it has is as a lure for stoner chicks, otherwise you just drift along on the couch.

hey guys, thank you for the input so far, I appreciate it.

Yeah, pot for me has become habitual. The longest I have gone without smoking is about a week or two (my big life changing 2 week trek across Europe was the last time), and I have definitely come to rely on it s a crutch for just about everything bad in life.
I love pot. LOVE IT. Maybe with this month of abstinence I will learn to curb it like I have my drinking - I used to drink at least 4 nights a week, and binge quite a bit, but I have cut that down to maybe once a week with little to no binging.

I think masturbation and porn are almost a offshoot of my habitual pot use - since everything is enhanced, just about anything sexual feel way the fuck better when I'm high. But because of these two things I noticed a substantial drop off in my drive to get laid. The last few times I went to a bar, I just kind of brushed the whole experience off and barely did any approaches, and when I did - they were lackluster and uninspired. As embarrassing as it sounds, I wanted to just go home, blaze up, and watch my favorite cam girls.

The unnecessary media part - that's slightly different. It isnt a motivation killer like the other two in the sense that it kills my drive - it just kills my concentration.

There are two types of guys that get into "game", "pickup", etc - the "normal" guys that just want a boost and to cut through the bullshit and the nerdy, borderline autistic social retards that had barely any experience with the opposite sex. I'm the later. Hell, that's why I recommend "The Game" and "Mystery Method" to people I meet with similar quirks - its the best way to explain the mysteries of the opposite sex to a person that has no idea where to begin. Anyway - I have a typical "bordeline autistic nerd" problem - ADD, because i display insane symptoms of it (I have never been diagnosed, probably because my parents are not American). I have trouble concentrating, but when I do, the concentration is so deep and unshakable, and the results are fantastic. For example - I have, on 2 separate occasions, broken the okcupid search algorithm, was one of the best Soul Calibur players in the country and went to international tournaments for it, I rigged "Flavor of Love " season 3, I ran an illegal software site as a teenager, ran a successful celebrity and nightlife gossip blog a few years ago (which got me threatened by several people, including Joe Francis, the guy that played the gardner on desperate housewives, and a model that was photographed making out with Mickey Rourke and got all embarrassed about it later), as well as all the random programming projects I've been working on that I dont want to discuss yet.

When I focus, I can do really awesome shit. The trouble is of course, getting to focus.

Thanks for the suggestion G, I have been really into crossfit for the last 2 months, going at least 4 times a week, and I hope that I can pick up some new hobbies as well, or at least get REALLY into my programming projects.

Thanks again for the input guys [Image: smile.gif]

Having met you KS I'd say kick the pot. You're ambitious and have a lot of ideas and the skills to execute them but I know the feeling of ripping a few big ones and letting go. It's easy to say, "I deserve this, I worked hard today. I'll do it tomorrow." But those tomorrow's add up and take away from what you REALLY want to be doing.

All three. I think that you consider these 3 things to be holding you back, so if you really want to improve, give up on them.

I don't know if i agree about unnecessary media, like the news? It's always good to be tuned in and know what is going on in the world.

Been a month since I gave up cigarettes and alcohol. I feel much more alive but also much more miserable.
