I live in Rethymno right now. There 8000 students here with 6000 being females. Lots of beautiful girls. although, if you come for a week your chance is almost zero. Girls here are conservative and the greek way to party sucks balls. Chania is a beautiful city and there many things to see on this island, but if you want to get laid just stay as much as you can in chersonisos and malia.
It is possible that I will also be in chersonisos that time, but send me a message at the begining of July and we will see.

Malia is filth come summertime.
You'll easily pick up a non-Greek girl just by not getting too drunk and falling over!
I don't have any recollections of names of bars or clubs - I went a few years back - but as above just don't get too drunk and pick-up should be easy.
I'm sure it was just a bad experience but I had a few things stolen when I was there - so keep hold of your wallet etc. when you're out.
Have fun mate!

Crete should be a good time, I would stay away from Malia.

Sounds like fun! I'm reading a fascinating book on Greek/Minoan culture as I write this, Greece is calling to me! Keep us all posted on how your trip goes.
Has anyone here explored other parts of the island, as in beaches, smaller 2nd/3rd tier towns, natural attractions? I've been reading that the Samaria Gorge is one of the "must do" things there but haven't seen much else written here about Crete.
