I always get a kick out of browsing those "stars without makeup" sites. It always brings home just how ordinary some of the hottest women look when they aren't dolled up. If there was no such thing as makeup, hair dressers and flattering clothing, I seriously think you'd never see a girl over 7. A 7 would become the new 10.

On the positive side though, it shows that even average woman can look pretty damn good if she just puts in some time and effort in making herself look feminine. I'm starting to think that maybe ALL women are mostly homely looking when you scratch the surface, but the only difference is some come from a culture where dolling up and taking care of themselves is more likely to happen.

ps - The Mariah Carey photo in the singer section is particularly shocking.

The girls in the "models" section hold up better than the actresses or singers.

Eventually you get to the point where every girl above a 7 becomes a 7 with just a bit of time exposed to them.

Some of the "before" photos look altered a bit. Maybe just the tint of the pic. And anyone looks bad squinting in heavy sunlight. Had to stop looking before finding Keira Knightley.

I have also noticed that some chicks get a bigger bang out of makeup than others. Some chicks can go from being a 6 w/o makeup to a 7 - 7.5 w/ just a little bit of makeup, for instance. I guess it is facial structure that determines how big of a bang a girl gets.

I gotta agree with Aliblahba on this one. This only proves that you can take an unflattering picture of anyone (and vice versa, which explains the Facebook fatty-to-hottie phenomenon). What's more, a lot of the before pictures are of lower production value--bad lighting, low-def. In other words, this isn't apples-to-apples comparison.

In my old line of work, I used to see/meet a lot of the "in" celebrities. Seven out of ten times, the chicks looked BETTER in person. The other 30 percent were obviously flubbing the system with all the makeup and camera tricks--which you can't pull of in person.

When I see these pictures it makes me further wonder why some of us are so scared to approach women. Some of us actually look better than some of these women!

I totally agree. You do get some chicks who massively benefit from make-up (e.g. Cameron Diaz has infamously blotchy skin) but people who do these with/without makeup comparisons always deliberately choose the most unflattering pictures possible. This shows a more objective comparison:

In fact I'd say the third and sixth women down (although they are admittedly the youngest in the article) arguably look better without makeup.

Even the hottest women can look bad in a picture, esp with bad lighting, cheap cameras etc. The same even holds true for guys. I'd say I'm about a 7 for looks but in photos I can look as low as a 4-5 or as high as a 9.

I have one friend who insists that all women are ugly and "look like guys with long hair" without make-up. I think it's more to do with the kind of girls he gets - in my opinion most of them look like guys with their make-up on.
