Hair upkeep

I'm an asian guy with some of the most frustrating hair. It's like thick, rough, not perfectly straight, and short-to-medium length. On top of that, I have a square-ish face that tends to get round when i gain weight (i'm in the process of cutting right now). I look pretty decent when I get a hair cut, but the problem is the hair grows back pretty soon. Do you think getting a haircut every two weeks at around 15/20 bucks a pop is too much of a financial investment?

Girls prefer thick, wavy hair to smooth hair on guys. I have medium-length dark wavy hair and just about every girl I've been with has told me she loves my hair.

15-20 bi-weekly is not that bad of an investment, but I avoid the cheap places and you probably should too; I don't want some jagoff or young honey just out of stylist college chopping my hair.

I have a girl (actually a lady) who always kills it and does it out of her basement, $10 per cut every 3-4 weeks with a $5 tip, and after she chops me up we usually riff around and have a few smokes before I go. That's the way to go, because people who can cut hair out of their houses can only do so because after years and years of experience they've built up a client base that trusts their work. Talk to your mom or your sister or some girls you know and they can probably find you someone who does that.

Aaron Marino says you can cut your own hair.

This is worth a watch.

Don't fuss about with your hair too much. Right now my hair is long and messy looking. And I put nothing in it. No gel, no wax, nothing. Very similar to Ashton Kutcher's here:

The last time I got my hair cut was 2 months ago. And I get a lot more looks from girls now than I did when I used to have the latest hairstyles and used all kinds of hair products etc. I have noticed that girls like long, thick, slightly unkempt looking hair.

The one thing I would throw into this discussion is that hair is a little like the sound of your own voice: nobody likes it. You don't actually KNOW if you look better with a haircut every two weeks. YOU may think so, but you're not trying to game yourself. My sense, objectively, is that you don't need a haircut that often. If you do, 15-20 bucks seems cheap. I pay $60 for every haircut.

Do what I do: focus-group your hairstyle. In other words, ask bitches--your target demographic--what THEY think. If you know what you're doing, you can even use it as an decent little opener.

Oh... I'm suspicious to talk about. I go to the salon every week. I SAID 4 TIMES A MONTH. If I could, I would go even more. Your hair is your greeting card. Do your thing on.

Deixa que essa fase é passageira, amanhã será melhor você vai ver a cidade inteira seu samba saber de cor!

I agree with Nonpareil the house based hair dressers are always good. I used to use one every month for about $20 and I would always bring her coffee so she was always glad to see me and made me look good.

Then I got dreads and started spending about $160 every 3-4 months for upkeep. Kinda steep but totally worth every penny to me.

Honestly i stopped caring about my hair, there are girls who love every style of hair out there, and atleast for me, i can get a professional styling job done for 5 bucks before i go out if i really feel like going balls to the wall out on looking my best for a night.

Honestly, ive never noticed a difference in response on my hair quality. Ive gone on extended trips in HK crashing out at internet cafes and still done reasonably well with woman with oil soaked hair and 3 or 4 days of growth of facial hair. (Damned china changing visa requirements so im stuck in HK without enough cash since it should have only been a day trip plus china bank's ATM's low widthdrawl limit.) At the end its just optimizing, if you have the basics down it wont make that much of a difference.

I keep mine short and simple, it's almost like a caeser. Fast to clean and need just a minuscule amount of gel and I'm good to go.

One thing I've noticed though is women just love to touch the back of it, where it's close-cropped to my neck. They say it feels like down, and if I'm driving a girl somewhere they are always stroking it.
