Yes, they should be providing a car and a driver. But no. And my workplace is also not near any metro stations -- hence the desire to have a car.

I'll choose a place to live on a direct bus route from my work, and very close to a metro. Means I likely won't have that many options. I'm definitely not going for a pimped-out apartment within the first ring, as I suspect Moscow's sky-high price level will eat into my generous salary...

You're still looking at around an hour each way between Skolkovo and anywhere on Kutozovsky. The junction at the MKAD turns into a traffic jam at times too.

By the way, girls are only interested in your lifestyle *right now*, and Russians with half the salary but no rent to pay will likely out-spend you. Flashing cash to get girls in Moscow is a multi-millionaire's game these days.

Another question -- what are the best online websites to meet Russian girls in Moscow? Are there any that are free? There was some decent talent on OK Cupid in Moscow, with most of them having good enough english to post an english profile, but the numbers were quite limited. I signed up for Russian Cupid, which looks like a free service at first but then you find out you need to pay to email people. Any tips?

The dating app Tinder!!! I was in Moscow a few months ago for a few days and got like 30 matches within 1 day. Women were very curious as to why a young (Black) American was in Moscow.

"The girls come DTF, although I fucked up my first two dates by not paying for drinks when the bill came"

You sat there waiting for them to get out their purse???!!

Would have liked to see a video of that..Awkward!

What job are you taking up that provides a driver ??

I'll check out tinder, thanks Int'l Casanova...

DaveR, good guess, I'll be working in Skolkovo. Based on that, any advice on where best to live?

@Pilgrim37 -- oh, as soon as I said "shall we split" to one, she went crazy. Said she couldn't believe I would try to do that to her... She said it was like she would be paying to have sex if she had to pay half of the bill. Message received on my behalf.

She actually said that? Doesn't she realize by that logic you paying drinks makes her a whore?

Without a car, your only option is to live on Kutuzovskij Prospekt; otherwise you'll be spending hours commuting each day. If you don't live there, you'll have to take the metro to some point along that street and then switch to the bus. I wouldn't recommend the latter as you'll already be spending around half an hour each way on the bus and adding a metro trip will make it worse.

The best option would probably be at the western end, around Kuntsevskaya / Pionerskaya / Slavyanskij Bulvar metro stations.

The following are the two bus routes you could use:

It's a tradition and there's nothing you can do to change it. Logic doesn't even come into it.

Bolshoe Spasibo DaveR, very helpful. I'm certainly going to do what I can to minimize my commute time. It would be terrible for sex and my nightlife, but I might even contemplate living in Skolkovo and commuting to go out. An hour a day commuting adds up over the course of several years, and there's only so much Pimsleur Russian you can listen to...

@durangoTang -- Yes, I tried that logic, said I didn't offer to pay for the whole thing because I didn't want her to think I was just buying sex, but it didn't work. What was done couldn't be undone. Texting later, we set up plans to meet up again, and she didn't show. She then did this a second time, only by then I knew she didn't show and made other plans... This is a typical Russian girl thing to do according to "Sex, Drugs & Libel in the New Russia"...

You can check real estate listings here:

Skolkovo - http://realty.yandex.ru/-/CVrgATYM

Kutuzovsky Pr. - http://realty.yandex.ru/-/CVrgATNx

But I would recommend trying to get a car included in your employment package. Even if it's something basic like a VW Polo. Life in Russia isn't comfortable without one, especially if you live and work in an area more than 5 minutes' walk from a metro station.

The problem with fines leading to visa cancellation can be avoided by having the car registered to a company or to a Russian citizen. That fixes the issue of camera-issued fines and parking tickets. The only thing left to worry about is the traffic police stopping you, but speaking no Russian often solves that. When officers deal with a foreigner and realise that it's going to take a lot of their time, they usually just let it pass. If they don't, you only need to take out your wallet and ask how much the fine is. Flash a credit card first to make it look 'innocent' but make sure the officer can see that you have cash as well.

Thanks once again DaveR -- remind me to buy you a drink and a lap dance when I get to Moscow...

Yeah, it sounds like buying a cheap car in Moscow and registering it in a Russian's name is the way to go. The links were very helpful -- Kuntsevskaya metro could be where it's at for me...

Just a quick post, as I'm exhausted and have to get up early tomorrow for work...

So, I arrived in Moscow a couple days ago. Already got my flag, although I've been spending most of my time running errands and apartment hunting. Still have yet to go out at night gaming, as this past friday I was too tired from jetlag. I haven't had much success day-gaming yet while running errands, as my poor Russian has definitely held me back. I also burned a night on my Singapore Air stewardess. My Russian conquest was maybe a 5.5 -- male prostitution on my part, essentially. She served as my personal translator for a day and I felt obliged to put out after all that help. It felt awful to hold hands with her on the metro with all kinds of hot pussy looking on.

In any case, if any of the Moscow expats on the forum need/want a wing, shoot me a pm. I'll definitely be in rampaging mode next weekend, now that I'm more settled.

Also, on housing I'm still debating whether to live in the Kuntsevskaya area or somewhere within the ring. I'm staying in the Tetryakovskaya area now, and it's super nice. Only issue, really, is the long commute to Skolkovo. Chime in if anyone has wisdom on this issue.

OK, I've now been in Moscow for several weeks, with no real report... I don't know that I have any new insights or anything has been that surprising. Anyway, here are some quick thoughts.

--In Moscow I can confirm now that I can get laid more often with hotter girls and substantially less effort than in the US. It's reminiscent of Japan or Brazil for me, although I'm not sure how to order them.
--I haven't yet noticed that ONS's are more rare here than in the US...
--Prices really can be ridiculous here, especially if you don't know where to go. Being new, I don't know where to go, and routinely get gouged as a result. Trying not to appear cheap on dates leads me to piss away money -- I can see why Roosh would want to leave Moscow just to stop the bleeding. Apart from pastry shops, which tend to sell tasty empanada-like pieces of dough with meat inside for cheap, it's hard to find value at any restaurant/food establishment. After spending more than I wanted to on an apartment, I've revised downward my estimate of how much I'll realistically be able to save...
--thus, splitting a bottle of wine (purchased cheaply at discount grocer) at the park is rapidly becoming my M.O. alongside coming over to check out my new apartment and drink beer (purchased cheaply at discount grocer).
--It's totally possible to do well here without speaking a word of Russian. Day gaming can be tough in English, but night/internet in english are totally fine.
--Russian women do have a thing with flowers. I bought a half-wilted rose for a girl -- first time ever -- and it resulted in an immediate makeout. There are flower shops everywhere here...
-- Just came back from some hippy rave in the countryside. Filled with riverside banya's, drugs, and vigorous tent sex with the flap open for staying cool. I'm pissed though, because I thought I had a threesome all lined up but one of the girls turned skittish. I blame my poor russian skills. At least the conventional 1m+1w sex i had to settle for was with a 7/8 with large naturals.
-- I've also met lots of girls who are legitimately fun to hang out with, and who are genuinely intelligent, worldly, and have much to offer besides sex. It does seem like a nice place to hunt for a wife, which is one of my goals.
-- It's retardedly easy to meet dyvushki online via Tinder or OKCupid.
-- It just seems to me like there's a wide slice of upper-class Russian that has a Western fetish, and the dearth of western men in Russia makes myself the primary beneficiary of this imbalance. I can be tired, and totally off my game on a first date with a 7 and still get a day2 at my apartment.
-- Probably a fluke, but riding on the metro one night, a drunk decided to grab the girl i was with (looked like he was trying to grab her tits). A shoving match ensued. I did get laid after this bit of heroism, but had the drunk been more fit/had friends/been less drunk, I could have ended up more worse for the wear... Maybe I'll bite the bullet and pay for a cab home next time late on fri/saturday... The other close call I had is a girl who drove me around drives like a maniac, lost control of the car doing 140 around a turn and very nearly wrecked. I do wonder how many of these I get before I wind up in a Russian ER.

Obviously, I can't compare to Ukraine or Poland, but, several weeks in, life in Moscow is good.

When you say easy day 2's at your apartment, are you actually boning, or getting "I have to go" after makeout?

Good report Cicero. I'm more impressed though about how you got the holy grail, aka, a well-paid job in Moscow. I've been looking around for several weeks, still can't find anything worthwhile in Moscow that would match my USA salary.

Also, any advice on finding a cheap Russian language tutor in Moscow? Day-gaming/turning girlfriends into language tutors may actually be the best solution... I posted an ad on craigslist that went unanswered... A friend recommended a girl who charges 2000/90 minutes -- that's 4X what I paid in California.
