This thread has been an awesome read. I was sent to Shenzhen for 6 months solo for work and had quite the time. I was new to China and had so many ups and downs but it was 100% worth it. I lived next to V Bar in Nanshan and was going there every second weeknight. On Fridays and Saturdays I'd go to Cocopark and sometimes end up in Luohu or Shekou, usually Richbaby or The Terrace. At one stage I had two girlfriends and was still pulling one night stands. Coming from the west it's almost a paradise for women but not quite like shooting fish in a barrel, there were definitely nights that I struck out. It's a weird place and you meet weird chicks there, I dated a smoking hot girl with serious T&A who was effectively homeless and living in a spa, she spoke perfect English. Another time I pulled a girl from a 24 hour KFC at 6am in Nanshan after drinking all night in Louhu, the next morning I found out she wasn't even out the night before and was there getting breakfast. After a few months the Shenzhen craziness got inside me and I started doing stuff I'd never do at home; I was banging an older divorced chick for a while, she wasn't very hot but had a body like an 18 year old and the tightest pussy ever, after a while we gave up on condoms and I used to finish inside of her. Months later I got tested and thankfully showed up clean and I never heard from her after I left. Another time I was banging a married chick who I met in Vbar, she wore her ring proudly but still came to my apartment to fuck when her husband was out of town. This was stupid, risky shit that you need to avoid if you ever get there. I let the place get the best of me and was lucky to leave the city intact. There are plenty of very sketchy people in Shenzhen and it's far from unheard of for foreigners to turn up dead in a river after "falling in" Keep to yourself and take precautions and you'll be fine but get carried away!

Some of my thoughts on venues mentioned in the thread:
Viva and Cocopark in general sucks without a big group. The only place I had success going solo there was the club halfway between McCawleys and the main Viva bar area where all the staff wear military uniforms. That's where I met the hot homeless chick. Saying that the outside area in Viva is awesome on a summer night with a big group and bottles on the table.
Swimming Pools, the Venice hotel has a very nice swimming pool and I used to brazenly just walk in and use it. One time (out of maybe 20) a manager asked for my room number and I answered him in French, he persisted in English, I huffed in broken French and just left, that was it. Every other time the staff would bring me towels and everything. You can also walk straight from the pool to V Bar.
Mix C is the best mall for talent spotting in Shenzhen, I spent hours sitting in the starbucks there just admiring the talent. I also like the Teppenyaki place in the food court on the top floor for a bite to eat with a beer.

Laser, thanks for the compliment and the contribution, glad its been entertaining.

A couple of thoughts...the "homeless" girl, did she work at the spa? If so, they probably have a dorm there, and she probably preferred not to live in it. Usually people who work in a sizable company in SZ, even a spa, may have an offsite dorm, often in some far away place, up to an hour away. Companies take a bit of salary, not much (though most workers don't make that much, some as little as 1800 rmb/month) for the workers to live there. If she didn't work there, it is entirely possible that she (1) somehow lived in the spa, because of a relationship with the management, or (2) made up a strange story to save face or to prevent you for whatever reason from trying to figure out where she lived. I'd add, some Chinese I know wouldn't call her homeless, they'd call her Xiao qi, or overly frugal, and might even be impressed on how she avoids paying rent. Takes all kinds, especially in SZ.

The most common category of married women looking for action are rich wives whose husbands are dallying with younger xiao san, and leave them alone too often. There is a particular category of this lady coming to SZ from HKG, but they're typically crossing the border to be discrete and to find some Chinese beef more substantial than their Cantonese HKG husbands.

I found SZ to be full of oddballs (mostly the foreigners) but heard very little about beatdowns or bad things happening. Quite the contrary, and I'd say its probably among the safest cities for foreigners living in China.

The club you like in Coco Park is definitely the shadiest one of the bunch, a bit of a black society hangout, hence the metal detectors when you walk in. I had someone unknown miss me with a beer bottle from the upstairs there once while walking by at night (I don't know for sure I was the target or if it was just random), but once I was inside there, I agree that it was probably the wildest place by far in the area. Had to do some pro avoidance in there as well, but no one ever really bothered me once we were inside. However, I got rolled by two mediocre girls the first time I ever went there. They rolled me for two drinks each, around 24 dollars total. The staff were freaking out about it, and I though it was about the funniest thing that had happened to me. I was just a China noob back then, first week in SZ...live and learn.

Very informative thread. Thanks so much for writing this up. I'm currently in GZ, but will be making a trip to Shenzhen one of these days.

RE: crossing the border into Hong Kong, do you just take a train there or is there an actual border crossing gate you walk to? How long is a train ride from SZ to HK? And, when resetting your visa, I've read that you just walk through a gate, loiter around for 5 minutes, then walk back into Shenzhen without any problems. Is that true?

She lived in the International Spa in Futian. I'm sure she had some deal with management, she had been kicked out of her last apartment for degen behaviour (drinking and partying) and was using it as a stop gap while she figured out what to do with her life. She had a few sponsors and I strongly suspected her of doing at least part time hooking in the past, so she had some money and I probably called her homeless more for dramatic effect, even though it was technically true! As far as I know she is teaching English in Shanghai now and seems to have gotten her shit together.
I did get a bit of a sketch vibe from that club but never as bad as I got from some places in Louhu.

Holy, there isn't really a train between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. The two subway systems meet at the Louhu border. You definitely have to get out and walk over the border, which can be a nightmare at times. There is also a crossing at Futian which is an even bigger gamble for crowds, there is another option to get a boat from Shekou. I think the Louhu crossing, which has the worst reputation, is actually the most reliable. I've heard of people waiting for 5 minutes and going back but I've never done it myself. The length of the journey depends on where you are coming from in Shenzhen and where you are going to in HK, technically you don't need to get on any train if you are in Louhu, you can just walk past the border, if you want to get to the city I think it takes about 40 minutes on the subway from Louhu to Kowloon.

Thanks. How long ago were you living there?

So the nightlife was decent and active, or only good on Friday and Saturday nights and limited to Coco Park? And were there plenty of girls to go around there and on WeChat/other dating apps? or did it feel limited to you, like you would see the same girls over and over on your nights out or something?

Shenzhen doesn't have the massive numbers of Guangzhou, Beijing or Shanghai, so I imagine this would be a concern to some.

Couple of years ago. Cocopark was much quieter Sunday to Wednesday. There was usually something going on somewhere on a Thursday, for instance Vbar had ladies night on Thursdays when I was there. Shenzhen is enormous and is a Tier 1 city along with BJ, SH and GZ. It's the smallest of the four but it's certainly in that bracket. As with GZ, it has less foreigners, less English speakers and less white collar jobs than BJ and SH.

Some girls associated with massage places do freelance, or are least sponsor hunters. I think, and I think you agree, that there is more (or less) to this girl than she told you.

W/r/t that club, definitely. I was saying that this was the shadiest one in Coco Park, which isn't very shady at all. Luohu attracts the most gangsters, and the clubs there are no exception. The girls in the Luohu clubs are +1 to +3 higher in looks than the vast majority of the girls in Coco, but largely are very limited in English.

I used to use Futian checkpoint to cross, and usually had a pretty good time table for getting across. Exceptions can be in the summer, when everyone in guangdong and hunan seems to be making day trips into HK. Then the lines can snake around outside the entry to Futian Checkpoint. Even then I've never waited more than 30-40 minutes. To be clear the border crossing I am talking about is not the one to which the train goes - thats a separate checkpoint in Futian and I rarely used that one. If you go to the one that you need to walk to, or take a cab to, then you're going to have far less foot traffic because most Chinese would rather save the money and go to the one they can reach easily by train.

You can definitely just turn around and go back for the visa reset, at least historically. No need to stay in HKG for any length of time. If you're in Shekou or feel like something different, its a bit pricier, but you can also take the boat to Macao for the day. Interesting place for a walkabout, not just for the casinos but for the Portuguese influence intermingled with cantonese tradition. Not the worst gaming location either, from the looks of it (I didn't really game). Tons of OFW from the Phils there, but mostly low quality (and also very cheap flights to Manila from Macao as a result).

Macau is also HUGE for P4P. It's everywhere there. Even if you don't indulge, the Rio Spa is worth seeing, its only $30 in with free food.

Ah come on lol, it's a fact of life that Macau is a huge city for P4P and it's something that most westerners are not aware of and you definitely need to be if you go there gaming. Take the ratio of hookers to normal girls in your average Vegas club and you can multiply it by at least five for your average Macau club. Even if I was a mongerer (I'm not), I wouldn't advise going to Macau and certainly not the Rio Spa (the most expensive Spa in Macau) to partake because, as Dagnasty alluded to, it's crazily expensive. I said it as worth a look, apologies if that was construed as advertising, it certainly wasn't intended to be. Anyway I phrased my post badly and I won't do it again [Image: whip.gif]

So back on topic, has anybody been out in Shekou in the last few months? What clubs would people recommend there? I used to go to Terrace a lot but found it quite meh, I went to the Viva there once on a Friday and it looked like it had potential but there wasn't a great crowd. Also, on Nanshan, am I the only one who has been to VBar here? Is it still open?

Most likely going to be in Shenzhen next week for the weekend. Anyone in the city right now?

I plan on using wechat and other apps, and probably game during the day. I recently had luck getting a few girls to come straight to my apartment to fuck, so I'm curious to see if it'll work in other cities. If I have time I'll try a few bars, but I'll only have one weekend.

So I guess Viva bar is my best bet?

If you're just interested in getting laid, and not to worried about quality then yes, Viva, or mostly Coco Park in general, is your best choice.

I edited my post earlier, but I touched down in Shenzhen a few days ago. LOL I ended up pulling my first night here, at Coco park.

But first, my first impressions of the city: people seem slightly friendlier than other 1st tier cities I've been to; of course I had guys trying to scam me as soon as I stepped outside the airport, but that's China. The weather is very warm all day and all night. As someone else pointed out, it's similar to SEA countries in that regard. It feels like I'm on a constant vacation. Feels pretty nice now, but maybe you'd grow sick of it long-term. I'm not sure how much hotter it gets in the summer.

I made the mistake of staying in a district a bit far from Futian in a cheap motel. The neighborhood I'm in is a bit foreign-unfriendly. As in, no Starbucks/Costa Coffees around, no Family Mart/Lawson convenience stores, not even any KFCs or Mickey D's to sit inside as I get free WiFi, and check out the talent and try to do some daygame. Nobody speaks English. Cocopark is about 45-60 minutes away on the subway, and said subway always seems packed with no seats available. It's also hard to get a taxi near my motel, and the nearest station is about a 15 minute's walk away. Taxi rides are a bitch as well; lots of traffic during the day.

All that aside, Coco park and outside bar street is off the hook, and very conducive to gaming. You don't even need to go inside any clubs, you can chat up girls outside (which is how I pulled). Very laid back environment; people sitting outside, listening to live music and drinking in the warm weather. That being said, it seems the Chinese and the foreign crowd are fairly segregated. I saw very little mingling between Chinese and the foreigners I saw there. All the very hot and attractive Chinese girls were with Chinese guys. I'd like to try to give them another go, or maybe check out those clubs in Luhuo.

As for the girl I laid, I was standing near the bar street in Coco park hunting for girls solo around 3:00-4am when I spotted a Chinese chick walking out by herself. She looked at me and then did a double take. My cue to follow her. [Image: biggrin.gif]. I rolled up beside her and asked if she spoke English. Not even 5 minutes later we're taking a taxi back to my motel and immediately fuck when we get there. All I can say is, hell of a way to start your night and trip here. LOL

I'm hoping to go out again before I leave, but not sure where I should go. I'm leaving before Friday, so it'd have to be a weeknight. Do coco park again, Shekou, or those Chinese clubs OP was talking about in Luhou. The latter sounds tempting. Which place is most likely going to be the most lively?

Lasers, yes I'm alone here. I never could find that bar you were talking about. Are you talking about Viva in Nanshan?

Holy Muff, where are you staying? Can you show it on a map? What district are you in? Sounds like you're way the fuck up in Bao'an, or in Longgang. Having no chinese and being in those areas, might be tough (to say the least). You might try WeChat game, jump on there and use the Look Around feature (or Around Me) and wait for girls to add you.

Also, most of these girls may be able to write - they just don't speak english, or can but are uncomfortable with the sound of it. WeChat game can bypass all of that.

Chinese clubs generally will have a crowd during the week as well. I'd actually say the clubs in Luohu might be better during the week than CoCo park, but they're far harder to game in, and unless you know the rules and the situation, you'll probably spend your time with a hot girl who works for the club and is being paid to make you drink faster. Nothing wrong with that, but not exactly an easy girl to close.

Get a data plan (prepurchase it) from China Mobile, load up Google translate, and try to communicate that way using small sentences. Long sentences won't translate properly and may fuck you up (speaking from experience).

Correct. Translators sometimes translate words - word for word - which doesn't work in Chinese.

For folks who don't speak Mandarin - try writing in English with stereotypical Chinese FOB grammar.

"Tonight, we eat food. You come."

It will translate better.

I sent you a PM.

I used WeChat when I first got here. I was able to get a date instantly and had a girl meet me in a Costa Coffee. Only problem was, she brought her friend along (whom was much hotter!) with her. She couldn't speak any English and we were talking on a translator, so they eventually left out of boredom. I was thinking to myself, if I only had a wingman to help me out I (we) could have definitely pulled. But then I got laid a few hours later, heh.

I didn't try WeChat much after that first night, was busy with other things. Yesterday I sent out a barrage of texts saying I was going to be at such-and-such location tonight, and they should meet me for a drink. Only one sort of agreed to meet me, so we'll see if she shows up. Ultimately, like Lasers pointed out, it seems online game isn't that great here, and is limited. Most girls don't speak English.

Most dorms are barrack like upstairs places near the place of work. Yes, they prefer living elsewhere better if they can afford. It is also possible they live at the work place if allowed.

Avoid the low-income workers, they come to the cities for the money not available at their rural counties, the second thing they are looking for is marrying with a well to do man, Chinese or sometimes foreign, to escape poverty.

I'll contribute a bit to this thread:

So this is my third (technically fourth) night in the city.

I've been hanging out in Luohu because that is where my hotel is at. The first two nights I was down and out with jetlag, so I decided to say "fuck it" and go out tonight. Wow.

I hit up a club at about 12am. I walk in with two black chicks I know from my hotel. They're both in the 6-7 range: thin, cute and cool. Just what I want with me in the club.

I walk in and buy us a round of whiskey and cokes. We pound the drinks and walk off. Immediately, this group of Chinese dudes starts talking to the light-skinned black chick. She has a GREAT fro. Like the sort of fro you think of when you think of a smart afro. It's not huge and obnoxious, but it's not wimpy; It's just right. They grab her by the arm. My instincts tell me this is good.

They beckon the three of us over and start pouring us shot after shot and dancing with us. It's pretty funny. They're trying to talk to me, but my chinglish is subpar and I can only communicate the rudiments to these fellows: "hey, I'm from america," "hey, thanks for the beer!" Really basic shit. This seems to satisfy the dudes. They even begin to back off the girls and one guy says to me, "they're both with you?!?"

I'm laughing my ass off, because I don't know how to say "nah, i'm not with either" in Mandarin. People start snapping photos of us like we're important people or something. It was very odd, but really fun.

Eventually we bounce from that group and wander into another. Same deal: more shots, more beer and more being treated like a prince. What in the hell is going on here? I thought they hated black people in China?

At some point in ready to go, so I tell the girls and we begin to head out. This Cameroonian cat roll up and start spitting game. I tell the girls we're getting out of here, but cameroon is aggressive and won't back off. I'm not white-knighting for these chicks, but this guy has no fucking game. I try to chat the guy up and divert him, but he starts fucking with me; he begins to repeat the words i'm saying in my accent. What sort of faggotry is this? This is the sort of thing a guy gets slugged for. I'm drunk and my temper is flaring. The girls see this and extricate themselves from the situation.

I tell them i'm going to piss. I come out of the bathroom and door guy grabs my arm and points the ladies bathroom and nods knowingly. "clearly the bitches are in the bathroom."

I appreciate that he has my back like that.

I wait around as he serves me warm tea and attempts to converse with me in broken english. One chick comes out and we head to the exit. Cameroonian man is trying to get with Fro girl and failing. She sees me and her eyes light up. She gets out from under him on the bench and comes to my side.

The Cameroonian faggot sees this and tries to shake my hand. I give him the shoulder and bounce.

Fuck that shit.

I hail a taxi and we head back. It was a pretty fucking weird night, but it was my first night out in Shenzhen. I'm looking forward to my later nights.

I will be checking my PMs weekly, so you can catch me there. I will not be posting.

Fortis - Good to see you've landed safely. Would be great for you to provide some more detail. What are the clubs - sounds like the club district near Guo Mao train station in Luohu, but perhaps you can tell us the names of the places. Also how was the hotel - worth recommending? How's the talent at these places? And how is the apt. search coming along?

Once you've lost that ethical quandary (which it isn't outside religion) then they've no reason to play the victim, you've no reason to feel the rogue. The interaction is to their benefit.

Shenzhen Data Sheet

Hey GE,

Absolutely, I'll give some more Intel. I wrote that first post after coming back from that place, so I was a little inarticulate.

so I've been at the Holiday Inn express at Luohu. It's OK. It's not crazy nice, but it isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination. The only issue I really have is that it seems a little "Damp" but I think it's just the humidity and can't really be helped. I don't know much about the prices because my job is putting me up for 2 weeks. They serve free breakfast from 6:30-10, but I find it to be lacking in protein lol. They only have eggs for protein and I find myself starving my ass off. But I've been finding some decent hole in the wall spots to eat at. I'll upload pictures of them for you guys if anyone is interested. I got a bowl of chicken veggies and rice for about 16 yuan. If I were to order the same thing at the hotel it would run me 48 yuan. What the fuck?

I went to a club called Soho in Luohu. Honestly, I haven't a clue how I got there. I told my two friends to wander around with me for a bit and stumbled upon it. There was no cover and it was SUPER crowded. Like sardines in a can, but I did find the crowd to be pretty good. I will say that the talent was good. Most of the girls I encountered were 6+ by my estimation. But you may wish to take this with a grain of salt because I do find Asians to be rather cute. I'm a light skinned black man and I found myself getting looks and smiles from numerous chicks. I wouldn't even say I'm that great looking, maybe a 6-7 if I'm dressed up for the night. I had on a shitty white T, dark jeans and a light blue jean jacket that night and the looks were still coming. One chick even tried to pull me onto the stage to dance. She was a 7 and definitely would have stuck around if that Cameroonian guy wasn't pissing me off.

That's another thing I've noticed about the city. You have to watch out for foreigners. I've noticed that the other black foreigners can be a little annoying if you're a black american. Not sure what it is. I asked my co-workers (one is a Kiwi, another is a Brit and the other is Irish) and they all agreed that sometimes the other foreigners can pose a threat, especially if they see you with good looking women.

But I really do think this city has good talent. I haven't seen too many 9+ chicks, but really, where do you see 9s walking around all the time? I'm not going to speak to 10s because no girl is perfect by my estimation. Now the real challenge will be actually exploiting the talent pool. There don't appear to be much in the way of bars in Luohu, but I'm trying to move to Nanshan. I hit up Frankies in nanshan last night. I liked it, but it was a little too much like home for me. It was mostly white guys and asian chicks rolling around. Not my kind of scene. I will probably visit it more once Nostalgia sets in, but I really wish to see the more Chinese side of Shenzhen for now. So far I've been To Soho and Frankies.

I would suggest Soho if you like those loud, raucous clubs with people randomly dancing in places. It's a bit much for me, but I was happy to be there when I was. If you're an exotic looking foreigner, dudes will want to be seen with you and girls will give that weird gaze somewhere between lust and curiosity. It is quite hard to explain. Like I felt as though if I had some mandarin I would be able to do well there.

Frankies is good if you like a pub atmosphere. You can get a legitimate american burger there and the staff is almost completely bi-lingual. The two-three main bartenders were all white. There was also an asian guy who seemed to speak english well, too. My opinion of the place is a bit lower, but I haven't been here long enough to appreciate an american style pub.

I will say that I see hoards of 7+ chicks, but when a city has 12 million people wandering around that makes sense. Now, you do need Mandarin here and I"m kicking my ass for not having it. I'm often in the Metro and I get strong eye contact and the occasional smile from a cute chick but I cannot communicate. It's a little frustrating, but It is something to think about.

Apartments are a little weird here. By a little I actually mean really fucking weird. There are apartments that would be lovely, but they have the shower head right above the toilet. What in the mother fuck is this shit? I don't like my current agent and I'm in the midst of seeking another. Your girl is actually out of the apartment agent game. She told me when i texted her yesterday, but I'm going to see if she knows someone. The woman who is currently taking me around is too pushy for my tastes. I work in the Nanshan area, but she's pushing these weirdo apartments on me. She has to go IMO. Currently asking my co-workers how to find a good agent. Again, having mandarin under my belt would probably make apartment hunting easier, but I do get the sense that one needs an insider to get the good deals.

One thing I want to touch on because I'm finally here:

I was getting the sense from the forum that black guys are reviled here, but I REALLY don't get that sense now that I'm on the ground. Women aren't knocking down my door trying to get in my pants, but they don't really seem all that cold. Some of the bi-lingual ones are even very curious in conversation. Some guys are even really cool and will try and strike up conversations with me on the metro once in a while. It seems a lot friendly than I was expecting. But I have to withhold judgement until I've been here longer. This is only my 5th day. So far I am liking it.

Hopefully this helps someone out there. If any of you guys rolls through let me know. I'd like to meet an RVF brother. I will be here for the next year.

I will be checking my PMs weekly, so you can catch me there. I will not be posting.
