As a young guy starting out with aspirations to live on a semi/permanent basis en Latin America I am wondering how I am going to get there.

Right now I am living at home in Canada working at an entry level job at a bank. From a game perspective it is not too bright. I've got bad logistics, not a lot of girls in my area and hardly meet any at work. I've managed to get one regular girl...that's about it. Nevertheless because of living at home I am saving money.

I know that I have some opportunities to move up. I am quite personal so I can see myself being a good financial planner or investment advisor. At the same time I don't want to be stuck with a few weeks of vacation a year.

Is there anything in the financial sector that is extremely flexible with time off? Are there other areas I should be looking, I'm not looking for anything trades related but could be fairly flexible otherwise.

Hey, I am in a similar situation as you, young guy trying to move up in the world. I've worked in finance and from the people I've met I would say tax accountants have the most flexibility to work for part of the year and take extended periods of time off.

Hours may be crazy of course depending on where you are working, but IMHO six months of hard work is worth six months of freedom to live abroad and work on your own location independent business (if you are interested in that kind of thing) or teach English.

Going for a CFA and doing consulting work may also be a good option from what I've seen, not sure what your plans are education wise.

If I could do it all over again, I would probably be a Physical Therapist. They have access to "everyone". Hot girls, Grandmothers of Hot girls, etc.

A friend of mine is a PT and met his wife that way. She's an Opera singer and they travel the world and he can work in any city she is performing.

RLT,
If you are Canadian, under paid, over taxed then this is your answer:

Yeah I'd take 6 months of hard work anytime, and its not like I want an extravagant lifestyle, only the ability to travel and make a reasonable living. Ill look into being a tax accountant, I can see the seasonality with that, anything else? I have my B.A but am fine with some more classes.

Onto- I'd be curious on how as a physical therapist you'd do well by meeting the grandmothers of hot girls...

VP -I am hoping on avoiding the oil sands though I know it is a great opportunity for those who have any interest doing trades and gives you that semi-independent possibility. I have zero interest in trades, unfortunately.

1. Get a job at BNS
2. Get transferred to one of their many Latin American operations
3. ???
4. Profit

Build up 10 years of experience and start consulting. Then you're free to take work at your leisure.

Couple questions:
Do you want to continue working in banking/finance?
Do you want to live in a place where you have more access to women?
If so you might want to consider looking at where these two factors merge geographically.

If you don't want to continue moving your way up in the field you're in, what would you be interested in doing? Is there a way to combine your interests with the experience you have?

If you are going to impose your will on the world, you must have control over what you believe.

Though I have limited experience I wouldn't mind staying in banking/finance. My strengths are being well rounded, both smart and good with people. And yes I'm looking for a place where I have more access to women, the trouble is finding where that merges.

Ideally for girls the most beautiful for me are in Latin-America and Eastern Europe. Not really into Asian girls. I am lucky enough to have dual nationality so could work in both Canada and Europe.

Pick a couple cities that have significant financial sectors, not just in their region but globally and start looking at what you could get into there. PM guys on the forum who work in finance and guys who have lived or visited where you're interested in relocating. This forum is full of resources.

When you say Europe, what specific countries are you talking about?

I mean I have European citizenship so I could work anywhere in the EU. That being said from initial impressions it seems like there is stiffer competition, than in Canada/U.S for more limited jobs. And also while I am fluent in Spanish and English I don't have any other languages aside from a bit of French.

A quick google search brought me this, but without knowing the details of your background I don't know if this would be helpful or not. Spend a couple hours and make a list of places you want to work, what they require, how long it would take you to get the credentials if you need them, and start brainstorming ways to make it happen.
