Is public display of affection really unlawful in Cuzco?

I read somewhere in this forum about the most ridiculous rule that any public display of affection to a girl is illegal and the cops will actually come after you over it. But I only saw this said by one person and it sounds like the most ridiculous rule. Every other country I know in the western world and Europe this is just a normal thing to do so getting arrested for it sounds kinda ridiculous. Is it true that that it is illegal in Cuzco?

I don't want to end up in jail for something that is normal and totally fine everywhere else you go.

I've been with 2 peruanas before and whenever I would touch them in public in Canada they would get worried. They told me that in Peru public displays of affection is not accepted, although I'm not sure how illegal it is and how dangerous it is. I can imagine that if you're a gringo looking guy, law officials would be tolerant with you.

Well this sucks. I am just going to take advantage of Peru and know that practically every other country even brazil is so great about it and now I find out that you can't even do it in Peru. this is just plain stupid!

I googled this and keep finding stuff in english and Spanish implying that Public displays of affection is ok in Lima so I am guessing that this is a silly rule in Cuzco then. The person said they had to pay a bribe after getting caught by the police kissing in public. How lame! Of all the cities in the world, the one I am going to, Cuzco you can't even kiss a girl in public!

Yes, enshrined in the Peruvian penal code, public displays of affection in Cusco are punishable by 5-15 years of imprisonment depending on the severity of said affection. Unless it occurs in Mama Africa where I almost got a handjob on the dance floor, then it's totally cool! I'm not a lawyer, so nothing I've written should be construed as legal advice.

Absolutely not true for normal pda, the most youll get is staring, and some narrow minded peruvians calling your girl a Brichera (aka gringo lover), I just ignore them.

Ok thanks. I had hope that it was not to be true since it was only one person saying it. Somewhere in these forums someone said they had the cops come after them for kissing a girl goodbye. It sounded far too ridiculous to be true since it is up to you to do that anywhere, even in Brazil, Colombia, Norway or Canada, so it makes sense that Peru wouldn't be such a fierce place in this respect. Well that's good to know. So if I kiss a girl by the templo del sol or Iglesia de San Francisco, I won't have a cop come take me away lol

Ok. I think it should be viewed as semi normal. If you do it in Toronto or Stockholm or Rio, not a sole will give a sh*t so it can't be much different where I will be lol Mostly people hardly even stare in any big city.

I can understand gay PDA in the streets of Cuzco being stared at as wrong, cause it is not considered normal everywhere, but with a girl is just a plain effing normal thing to do in the western world.

Planning on living there for a bit this year. Sounds like something the cops just do to shake people down for bribes. I'll be sure to let you all know if I encounter anything like that.

Has anyone heard of this sort of thing in other Peruvian cities/towns?

I plan on living there from late April thru late Nov, so 7 months. When and how long are you planning to?
I used to live in the Amazon too.
