Went out on hump night (heh) just planning on playing pool with a couple buddies. I guess because its the first week of school, the place was slamming. The ratio was around 1:1 and a few large groups of frat boys circle-jerking in the corner meant the place was a meat market.
we locked down a pool table but, being off in the corner, we had inadvertently boxed ourselves away from the action. I decided to wait it out and sure enough, a mixed group of friends came over and asked for the table.
The large group just wanted to take over the table so they sent the cutest girl over to ask. Seeing the heat-seeking flesh missile being sent in our direction, I activated my thermonuclear defenses and said, "sure you can play, we are playing 2 on 2 for $20." Of course she looked like she just got slapped across the face and the guys in both her and my group chuckled. I gave her a little flack and then backed off and said sure, we could play teams and then her group could have the table. I thought this was reasonable. Her team sends her to the change machine to get 75 cents for the table.
While she's away, her best friend comes up and tries to grab my hat off my head. I grab her forearm and apply a line straight out of Mystery Method: "Hey, hands off the merchandise. This shit ain't cheap." The guy friend next to her gives me a fist bump and her eyes light up. These girls have been walking all over these chumps and are now running up against resistance.
At this point, my friends leave to catch their bus. I continue chatting with some of the group since I have established myself to some degree. Nevertheless, I was getting a bad vibe from some of the group. The girl I originally teased, although the most attractive (6), turned out to be a mother hen as well as the focal point of the group. When I attempted a venue shift with her friend, her friend told me she needed to ask for permission. I joked about being in her friend's "orbit" but I soon realized this was exactly the case -- she had resigned herself to second fiddle.
I'm confused as to the less than friendly guys in the group. After asking "so...how does everyone know each other?" I realized there weren't any couples so i doubt chatting up the beta female could be considered "snaking their girls."
Any analysis greatly appreciated.
