Toronto woman's serial dating to get pricey restaurant meals

Tell the truth: Have you ever gone on a date with someone you weren’t the least bit interested in just because you really wanted to eat at a certain restaurant?

If so, meet your new role model.

Toronto Life reports on a woman named Erin, a 23-year-old actress with a meagre bank account but very expensive tastes when it comes to dining.



The solution: Erin is dating as many men as possible in order to check off every box on her 48-restaurant-long bucket list. She doesn’t have to like the guys just as long as they pick up the check.

In fact, Erin even has her own blog, A Penniless Girl, Bad Dates and Plenty of Oysters, that details her culinary adventures as a non-committal serial dater. And it seems there isn’t much she won’t do to get those gourmet meals.

Among other ruses, Erin has posed as a practising Jew in order to date guys on the online dating service known as J-Date. “I’d say my Hebrew is on the rougher side,” she writes on her blog.

Erin also freely acknowledges dating recent immigrants to avoid risking detection by single men wise to her scam.

So far, Erin’s dining-and-dashing escapades have been exposed on Reddit, which garnered more than 600 comments.

Judging from reader comments on the Toronto Life site, public reaction to Erin’s scheme ranged from supportive to indignant.

On the supportive front: “Oh please. Men have been duping women into dates just to get laid forever,” Rishi Sethi writes.

Also: “People use others to fulfill their needs/desires all the time. Men will take women on dates just to have sex with them. She’s doing it for food. Much less harmless, don’t you think?”

Among the outraged comments: “She’s a struggling actress,” Nick writes. “She will be a druggy OR porno star by 25. No need to hate on this woman. Life will hate her soon enough.”

Steven writes: “I’ve seen her type and (sigh) unfortunately most men are oblivious to conniving types. I’ve been there – thinking with the naive part of their brain and the little head and not the big one.”

And Erin’s response to the firestorm of controversy she’s created? “Haters gon’ hate,” she says on her blog.

What astounds me most is that on her blog, in her profiles and even on her dates she goes to lengths to dress sloppy, act sloven and give off a rude, unfriendly and masculine vibe.
