Fat Shaming weeks finally makes the kind-of-mainstream press in France

An unapologetic hit piece. Here you go:

http://www.lesinrocks.com/2013/11/03/act...-11441642/

The article does a few things --

1) Paints and criticizes this as a typically American phenomenon
2) Conceded that there are some French sites like http://cestquiquiestgros.com/ a fatty who's who.
3) Accuses ROK writers of having the same mentality of their conservative grandmother.... (as if that were a bad thing... she was probably hot in heals).

I was in Paris last month after a 15 year absence. Man those people have started to get fat as well. 30 years ago there were all these sexy skinny women and fit men. Not now.

Russia and Asia apparently are the only places that seem to have a fairly natural, historically normal, idea of the human body.

A recent post. Our francophone RVF members might want to enjoy participating in the comments.

"Equality may perhaps be a right, but no power on earth can ever turn it into a fact."

"Want him to be more of a man? Try being more of a woman!"

"It is easier to be a lover than a husband, for the same reason that it is more difficult to be witty every day, than to say bright things from time to time."

It's sending a good bit of traffic. Must be a big site.

It is mostly regurgitating some of the anglosphere press.

Think of it as the French Rolling Stone. Started of as an 80s alternative music monthly.

Wasn't there a book/study named 'why French woman are thin'? I'm shocked the French aren't embracing our support and love of women who put the fork down once and a while.

Right. There have been a few, notably NYT best seller "French Women Don't Get Fat" about 6 years ago.

French women generally still have figures, meaning their body shape is roughly an hourglass. But they are getting pudgy.

In contrast, American women now on majority have lost that shape, and rolls of random fat overshadow their natural feminine curves. I call this a blob figure. An informal count in center of Paris last month was still over 90% hourglass whereas NorCal has numbers well below 30% with nearly all those with proper female figures being Asian. In contrast, center of Odessa is likely 99 pct.

I believe the French mentality has changed significantly beginning with Gen X. More Anglo, pro US, fast food etc. Americanization brought with it American style rationalization.

The men and women -- intellectuals, thin -- I knew who were born in the 30s would probably have applauded fat shaming week as a blow against American fatty cultural imperialism. Their grandchildren like the author of this article are certainly somewhere else... probably Starbucks with a sugary ice cream drink.

As the French increasingly eat less French, they are getting fatter.

true. French women are still, more often than not, slender and beautiful. You walk the streets of some good neighbourhoods of Paris, like say the 16th or 7th area, and you'll find almost as many cute women as in Moscow. Yes, I said, Moscow, no less. And go to some provincial cities also, say wealthy La Rochelle, you'll find a huge amount of beautiful women. Same with Germany. France and Germany and Croatia are almost competing with Moscow, regarding the amounts of cute girls living there...

The "Le Point" article is real mainstream... Basically a French Newsweek.

"Equality may perhaps be a right, but no power on earth can ever turn it into a fact."

"Want him to be more of a man? Try being more of a woman!"

"It is easier to be a lover than a husband, for the same reason that it is more difficult to be witty every day, than to say bright things from time to time."
