Where to get apartment in NYC (Manhattan)

Looking for a new place and wondering whats the best place to live...

22 years old looking to spend $1,600-$1,700 a month on rent.

Upper East/West side is nice and quiet, but could provide for some bad logistics when trying to bring a girl back to my apartment - also, not much of a nightlife up there.

Im thinking Midtown where I'll be in the center of everything and nothing is too far of a subway ride away...

Unless you really like work, midtown is not the spot. At your age, find a cheap apt in the LES for $1200 and put that extra $400-500 and save it.

With sharp game, logistics awful can be minimized and decent logistics can be maximized.

I'm in NYC, but not in Manhattan, and I get enough to never worry.

I agree with MaleDefined. Since your price range intrigued me i decided to check out listings. 1700 for one person should get you some solid logistics from what I've seen here http://www.rentmanhattan.com/index.cfm?page=search ( click manhattan and put your price, for some reason the listings are not coming through directly) There are apts on 95th st UES, the talent there is respectable..to say the least. Everything you'd expect from manhattan. Saw some apts on 77th st ,80th up to 95th.(UES) You have Hunter College on Park and 68th. But there is alot of down time, I've traveled through there many times throughout my life i'd say the avg girl is 27' y.o and up. They look good. Area is Quiet as Fu*k. People around there intrigue me, they dont normally come into contact with someone who would open them just to shoot the sh*t , like i do to entertain myself. Keep it G, the girls want cock!
In your shiiituation tho, I would most deff look to the apts in West Village. Saw they were 1700 . You a walk away from prince, christopher greene, 14th not to far. Meat packing bro. I believe that you are are 20 dollar cab ride( including tip) away from some of the best clubs. Nothing against the LES, dope girls, drugs , NAzareth(columbia st).

The reason i take WV over LES, is simple. I sympathize to their predicament. Girls walk the streets there with the understanding, they are going to feel wanted by men. Truthfully speaking, they really only want the man that doesn't care about their existence. Their femininity is what i'm getting at. Its like they are in competition there. The ones in the bout go all out. The ones on the sides watch and appear as ghost.
*One warning if this is an issue for you, gay guys will holla. Part of the scene, be cool they cool. Mad connections to the art world.

Would you take WV over Midtown West? I think for about the same prices I could get a luxury building in MW as opposed to a walkup in WV

UES has a really decent nightlife, especially at your age its a recent grad crowd, and there are a ton of places along Second Ave from about 91st down to 72nd. Its actually pretty easy and a fun scene, but I would compare it to a college town.

I think the West Village is the spot though. If you find a decent space, at a decent price, this is the spot for quality gaming. Its full of woman everyday, day and night. There is no 'grunge' factor like the East Vil or LES, so you dont have to worry about the furry.

During the day Im at work.. My hours are usually around 11-12 hours a day. So day time prospects are a bit limited, aside from weekends.

If you are talking about nightclubs, this is definitely true. However, I would argue that a large percentage of pickups in NYC occur at shitty bars, and those are plentiful on the upper west and upper east sides.

Midtown is actually great logistically, with tons of hidden spots and drunken mid-late 20s bar scenes most nights of the week. Midtown is severely underrated in all respects as NYC nabes go, everyone loves to hate.

Shhhhh! Keep those neighborhood joints off the forum. We don't want them to turn into cockfests with public exposure.

other dude is right...West Village!!!! (If your not a homophobe, your good)

It is the best logistics in the sense that you can practically WALK to meatpacking, greenwich village is close by, and both high end bottle service & hipster venues which are 1000x better when it comes to women. I would NEVER advise anyone to live in uptown since it's like living in another borough and cab rides will add up. If I lived in WV I could literally walk anywhere in the span of 15mins whether it be EV, soho, greenwich village, etc.
