Running away from or running away towards...?

I was reading this very inspiring and nice piece about the types of comments we may encounter from friends and family when telling them about our plans for long/independent travel/roaming. Have you guys, specially those who have been on the road for a long time or are thinking of hitting the road for a long time, getting these types of comments? And how are you coping with them especially when they come from those who are the closest to us, like famiily and siblings? And last but not least, what is it that you're looking for when hitting the road for an indefinite period of time? What are you "running away from" or running towards to?

I'm very interested to read/hear what you guys are thinking about this issue and as I'm going through this exact phase right now with right now.

I'm in my early 30's so I don't have that type of relationship with my parents or friends. Maybe in your 20's where your parental relationship is still managerial not consultant like it is now, but my folks have had a laissez faire approach to how they managed me and advice. It was more of a learn on your own type of thing. It's your life, your moments, you live them how you want....

I travel to add depth and growth to my life. I enjoy just experiencing different things and not being in that rut. Think about it..how often do you eat at the same sorry ass restaurants and eat the same menu items? I got tired of being that person and push my self to try and experience different things. I literally eat at a different restaurant each week and I never order the same thing even if it was good because I am trying to break the habit many earthlings have, of living a complacent and safe life.....

I've been using some combination of burnout combined with a variety of aspirational excuses. The more mediocre my reasons are, the more readily they are accepted. If they can pigeonhole you, then they are happy, and you can move on to some other subject.
