Nashville or Durham/Raleigh?

Nashville or Durham/Raleigh?

So I've been thinking a lot about where I want to move to next week, and I was pretty set on Durham a couple of days ago... but Nashville has crept back up.

I've got Craigslist ads up in both and have solid housing prospects

I'm an internet-based freelance writer who can work from anywhere, so I don't need to find a job where I'm working.

I also have a car and really like to take road trips.

Here's what I'm looking for in a place

- Nice outdoorsy areas (I like to spend time outside)
- Sizable number of young people
- Modest cost of living
- Stuff to do (I meet girls during the day and online, so nightlife is not important to me)

Any of you guys been to both and could give me some perspective on both to help me make my decision?

If you can live anywhere, why are you considering these two places? How about New Orleans? How about Tampa?

Both are too far away from my family (I want to be within a 10 hour drive of Michigan)

Durham is good if hipster artsy girls are your niche.

I've got the dick so I make the rules.

I lived in Nashville for quite a long time and I still commute in and out for work. It wouldn't be anywhere near the top of my list for living the player lifestyle.

The local scene is very much oriented around one's social circle and people tend to be very cliquish. I've had some successes here but I'm always struck by how much better I can do with much less effort in other cities.

There are a couple of threads on Nashville that you might want to check out. Do a forum search for threads with "Nashville" in the title and you'll find them. I believe Speakeasy has written on this topic and from the perspective of one who's spent many years here, I think his comments are pretty spot-on.

What about Ann Arbor, but I think you might have said that you don't want the Michigan winter in another thread.

I would pick Durham because NC is a great state. Nice beaches 2 hours away, or mountains a bit further than that. The triangle has 3 schools, so there is a constant turnover of people suitable for banging.

Don't know anything about Nashville. Also, DC is a 4.5 hour drive from Durham! That is a bonus you simply can't deny. [Image: biggrin.gif]

Does Michigan not have airports? 2-3 hr flight vs. 10 hr. drive. With gas prices it may be cheaper to fly, but to each is his own.

Tennessee sucks a huge and massive cock. Avoid. Durham sucks too. Consider Raleigh. I used to live there. Plus your less than 2 hours from Wilmington, which is a GREAT place to chill on weekends. It has Carolina and Wrightsville Beaches, and a kickin' downtown.

I just finished up living in Raleigh for close to 2 years. A decent area there is Morrisville NC which has decent housing prices and rents as well as being 15 minutes from Durham/Chapel Hill and Raleigh. Its right in the middle and right next to the airport for easy flights out.

The biggest hurdle with game in North Carolina is that there is very limited weeknight game venues and as for day game it takes a lot more work since everything is in strip mall shopping centers.

It will always feel like living in the suburbs. But the vibe is cool. But it often takes a long time to see a cute girl, but they are around.

But its really easy to park downtown without cost on weekends and hit some of the clubs.

Nashville has a pretty kicking music scene from what I've been told. Both rock and country. Where there's bars and music there's whores. I say Nashville.

My friend moved down there many years ago and has a thriving band. Doing world tours. They're entertaining troops in Afghanistan right now. He seems to like it. Damn I think I need to take a trip.
