Quick way to learn the piano?

Quick way to learn the piano?

I used to play the piano as a kid. Hated the lessons and gave it up during high school. Now I wish I had stuck with it when I see a guy able sit down at a keyboard and bust out a decent song. Girls go absolutely nuts about this as I am sure you all know.

I stumbled upon this guy David Sides' website who claims he can teach you an easy way to play popular songs on the piano with a software program he wrote:

Not too expensive when you consider how much piano lessons can cost you.

Girls would be getting wet if I could play a Rihanna or Coldplay song half as well as he can:

What do you guys think? Worth the investment? Know of any better way to learn a few fun tunes on the piano?

Relatively easy then. I am not interested in going through "classical training" again. I have no interest in playing scales or being great at sight reading. Just learning to play a few pop songs that I can break out whenever I see a piano would be great.

I've been playing guitar for 10 years and I get what you're saying. I dumped classical training because I was so eager to learn songs and now I regret it very much. I'm actually having to teach myself musical theory and reading because I only now realize how important they are, as well as scales, inversions, different techniques, etc.

In the long run, any musical instrument is worth a deeper study. Nowadays I get more joy out of playing with friends and jamming than just playing to get pussy. Scales and shit are tools to play and compose and they help you get acquainted with your instrument of choice, so they do have an importance.

Also, if you're main concern is how it will look and wether or not girls will dig it, try to imagine this: how lame would you look if there was someone else in the room who could play and who actually knew theory and started to talking to you about it, only for you to look like [Image: huh.gif] and say you don't really know anything about the subject and can only play 2 or 3 songs

I've played the guitar and the viola.

Just like anything else, true mastery requires 10,000 hours.

Yeah, you can memorize the theme song for "Titanic" and maybe you can bag some half-witted chick with that. Only weaklings and haters will judge you for it, so fuck what others think, and aspire to that which you emphasize as important - quick lays, short-flings, broad experience - or deeper relationships, in-depth experience, and so on.

But if you want to really master something beautifully - and aesthetics is not some subjective concept, I can tell you, it's entirely objective - then it's going to take thousands of hours of effort.

It's up to you to decide whether mastery of the piano will make you happy.

A year from now you'll wish you started today

I think my point is getting misinterpreted here, which is probably due in part to the title of my thread.

I was just wondering if this guy's software program might be worth the 150 bucks so I could learn a few pop songs that I could play at random times like a house party where there happens to be a piano. I never had any intention of posturing like I was some sort of Ben Folds genius on the piano while cutting out all the work. I just think being able to sit down a play a decent version of a Coldplay song on the piano would be fun and another weapon in my pickup arsenal. Just wanted to know if you guys think there is a better way out there to achieve my goal considering cost and time investment.
