These photos don't challenge anything. Artists take on controversial projects all the time to get attention for themselves and their work. Something like this attracts a certain amount of attention.

I think they purposely used 400+ lb "women" because at that point they're kind of beyond human. I actually thought the pictures were pretty neat because all those curves and folds are so insane they take on an artistic quality with contrast and shadow. If you just view these "women" as some weird distorted sculptures being photographed they can be appreciated as "art".

Honestly they are so unreal and non-human looking that I wasn't disgusted by the photos. Which I think is what the photographer was going for - to try and trick us into NOT being disgusted by fat people.

I challenge him to photograph some typical American 180-250 pounders similarly and just TRY and suppress my disgust reflex. He'll fail miserably.
