Probably the best pound for pound fighter in the world, but wtf... why is he so eager to fight St. Pierre and so against fighting Jon Jones?

Silva hasn't had much competition in years at 185 and 205, and slides up easily into the 205 division, yet wants to take on a smaller guy at 185 or a catchweight like 180.

In boxing, guys that dominate their weight class move up. This guy needs to step up and take on Jones. He's too big to take on St. Pierre and the only way St. Pierre should take that fight is if it's at 175. Not fair to have St. Pierre move up to 185 and fight the best pound for pound fighter in the world in his weight class.

Without a doubt Anderson is scared of Jon Jones. Not only is Jones a huge freakish athlete but one of Jon Jones biggest strenghts (wrestling) is Silvas biggest weakness.

I dont blame Silva for wanting to fight GSP but if so I think he needs to move down to 170lbs. He fought at 168lbs earlier in his career. It may be too much for him to cut that much weight now but if that is the case then he doesn't need to fight GSP.

Edit: Also GSP is listed at 5'11" now and before his surgery he was listed at 5'10" but before he joined the UFC his height was listed at 5'9" or 5'9.5" so Anderson would easily have 4+ inches on him.

I agree.

Silva has been coasting for years. He needs to prove his greatness by taking the harder fight and quit trying to protect his legacy. UFC has been coddling him.

I thought he was supposed to be retiring soon. That's what I'd read about a year ago.

Boxing has a lot more weight classes and the differences between them are not as huge as they are in MMA. In boxing you might only be moving up by like 8 lbs when you go up a weight class. For MMA you could be moving up by 15 or 20 lbs when you go up a weight class.

Boxing has too many weight classes, wasnt that many before.
GSP has put on a lot of muscle though since his last fight and this maybe because he himself is prepping for a Silva battle

Silva getting older. in his prime, don't think there is any question he would take Jones. Now he will have his troubles.

To whom? The fans? Last I checked people are still paying to see him fight. This is a business, and he's doing what he needs to do to stay at the top of the money making pyramid. Given a choice between being a top money maker, or catching a beating and fade away, I would continue to make my money and and say fuck what everybody else thinks.

Just my two cents.

Jones a few months ago:

“It’s not that he won’t fight me or I won’t fight him. To be dead honest, it’s – we both have a lot to lose. And we both respect each other a lot and we are both striving for personal greatness. I don’t want to crap on his greatness; I don’t want him crapping on my greatness. You know, we are in completely different weight classes.”

“We both have sponsor deals and things that are really important to us and a big part of that sponsorship package is being a winner, being a champion. And having us fight each other someone’s championship is going to go away. I respect Anderson Silva so much; I don’t want to be the guy to beat him. I don’t want to lose to him either; it’s a lose-lose situation.”

“If we were in the same weight class, it would be inevitable but it’s like ‘Dude, I’m dominating my weight class, you’re dominating your weight class. Some things were just not meant to be seen’.”

Also:

Jones was also asked what he would do if a contract with Silva’s name was put in front of him and he jokingly said he would have to be paid 50 million dollar, then right after stated he simply wouldn’t fight “his future mentor”.

Then just a few weeks ago:

"I respect [Silva] a lot," Jones said to Brazilian outlet Correio Braziliense. "As I said several times, I do not want to be the guy who beat Anderson, and do not want to be the guy who lost to him. Anderson is a great champion, I'm a great champion. We both..." At that point Jones trailed off, before picking back up. "I don't know. I don't know.

"I'm not saying that the fight will not happen. It can happen. But it's not something I'm chasing.

"I don't believe that I need to fight with Anderson to be the best in the world," Jones concluded.

Silva is ducking Jones though [Image: lol.gif] Neither guy wants the fight to happen.

Unless he gets like $25M guaranteed GSP would be stupid to take that fight above 170. GSP is a great fighter but Silva is just too big. He could make 180/185 and be 215 on fight night easily

Silva vs Jones would be epic.

I'd of course be pulling for Anderson, although he is getting older, I still think he could pull off the win.

Anderson is always gracious and never talks shit that he can't back up with his fists.

Also, he seems like a natural alpha (see pic below).

If UFC wants to put on superfights like Silva vs. Jones, it'll have to pay the fighters more. There's not enough of an incentive for someone for Anderson Silva to risk his reputation and career for $200K plus a bonus. According to this site, Silva has earned less than $3 million dollars from his UFC fights. Boxing, hardly a thriving sport, has bigger paydays for its stars. Floyd Mayweather made $32 million in one fight with Miguel Cotto, which though a good matchup was hardly a superfight. Cotto even made more from that one fight than Silva has from all his UFC fights.

I hope you dont believe that the disclosed fighter pay is all these guys are making for their fights?

I have heard some estimates that after his PPV cut Anderson cleared 7 million just for his UFC 148 fight against Chael.

This is all just estimates because the UFC does not disclose this pay since they are a private company and allowed to do so.
