Weight Loss

Anybody else here trying to drop some pounds? I looked around and didn't see a general thread for it. Since I started taking the Red Pill I realized that whether muscles help or not, being a fatass isn't gonna help me at all, so I've been cutting calories, upping the protein in my diet and hitting the gym pretty regularly. I'm sure I'm not the only one. If you've been trying to lose weight too, how's it been working for you? What works and what hasn't done it?

I'm in the same boat. I realized I needed to lose weight plus my doctor told me I was a fatty as well. I guess my doctor and this forum fat shamed me--and I feel good about it.

I've lost around 20 lbs so far. I do P90X in the morning and try to walk for a bit after dinner. I'm taking multivit, zinc, ACV, fish oil, water instead of soda, and more veggies.

Hopefully I can get back to my footballer days.

Weight Loss

I was fat 10 years ago, never been fat again.

1- Find exercises that you like. Treadmills and stationary bike 4 times a week gets really boring. Once a week is enough, combined with real biking, jogging, dancing, whatever you like. Variety helps a lot in the long run, because you will be doing it your entire life. You need to like it.

2 - Build muscles as it will help you lose weight. It makes your metabolism faster etc etc. Bottom line is you burn more calories. It's just good for you anyway.

3- Find many reasons to exercise, health is just one. For me : getting some fresh air, looking at really hot chicks at the gyms, resting my brain after doing a lot of mental work, getting out anger, helping me think and solve a problem, etc. So when I'm lazy and I don't want to get up, tons of reasons come to my mind to motivate me.

4 - If you don't know anything about nutrition, read books and learn the basics. Calories in minus calories out = what you lose. Don't eat between meals, don't leave crap in your house, eat healthy and you won't have much space for junk food. Follow the american food guide for a good start.

I've been doing really well on the stationary bike. I turn the resistance up stupid high (80%+ of the maximum value) and take a portable video game or something to watch or read. If the resistance is high enough you can still burn stupid amounts of calories even if you're not going terribly fast, and it builds serious muscle in the legs. If you've got something to do while you're on the bike, you can go more often and go for longer. I usually do an hour several times a week.

Use the search function. In 5 seconds I found two threads related to the topic:

I'm sure there are more treasures on weight loss buried in the ancient threads, but don't make it the forum's job to dig through the archives for you.

Weight Loss

Weight loss is one of the major improvements you can make in your life if you are a bit on the heavy side. It will not only improve your health, but your chances with women, your sex life, career etc. That is not to say that an overweight male cannot succeed, in fact many do, but it will become a game changer in many fields throughout your life.

The options range from simple workouts (gym, running, biking) to program workouts (aerobics, abs programs, insanity, p90x etc) to pills (colon pills and powdered substances etc).

While the first two are healthy and recommended by all physicians, they take time and require discipline to not only implement in your daily/weekly exercise regiment but see through till the end. I say this, because if you work out like crazy for a month or two and than stop and do no physical activity for a period of time, you will gain a lot of weight in unwanted places (depending on body type/bone density). The latter, on the other hand, has yielded some results (although sparse) in losing weight. The trouble with that method is that you can rarely trust the source 100%. And what chemicals work for someone else, might not necessarily work for you. The human body is complex and even though healthcare drug companies try to generalize as much as possible their products (after all, every business wants as large a market as possible) the way we respond to treatments or deal with ailments is very diverse.

Weight Loss

I lost ~10 pounds in the last month or two. People ask me how. What a stupid question...
I eat less

Understand, I wasn't fat at all, just knew I had a few extra lbs. I've always played basketball regularly, then I started lifting again in January, but it wasn't until around May I stopped eating as much that I dropped the weight.

(1) I don't eat until lunch, around 1-2pm
(2) When out, I pass up the hamburger more for something lighter
(3) I feel better more often. I'm feel far better being slightly hungry than being full from eating too much.
(4) I still drink a lot of alcohol.
(5) When I do eat out, it seems like I feel full and uncomfortable more than I used to. It's like anything, I *could* eat the entire dish/sandwich I ordered, but if I show a little discipline I'll be more comfortable in 15 minutes and I'll feel better the rest of the evening.

I remember when I did P90x a few years ago, I lost weight quickly. If you stick with the program for 90 days, you will lose weight. Every day of the week is a different workout and the curriculum changes every 30 days. Won't gain much in terms of muscle mass, will gain some strength though.
