For years I've noticed that young people from Asian countries who are living in the United States often engage in social activities or other activities in male/female trios: two men and a woman, or two women and a man. I've always assumed that the purpose of that is so that they can enjoy the energy of a mixed-sex group while keeping sexual tension under control: while a man and a woman going out to do things together might feel constant tension as to whether or not they ought to form a romantic couple, and two men and two women might feel tension about whether they ought to form two romantic couples, in a male/female trio, at least one of the two men, or one of the two women, will almost always tend to cockblock or twatblock the other two group members. One thing that's mysterious to me is how much conscious acknowledgement there is in the formation of these groups: for example, if, say, an Asian male chemical engineering grad student says to an Asian female electrical engineering grad student, "I'm almost out of star anise; would you like to go Grand Mart with me to get some more?", will the two of them hold off on actually doing that until they can find a third wheel?
Has anyone here ever successfully opened and isolated with one of these trios; and if you did, did it lead to a bang? And were there any awkward consequences afterwards, for you or for her?
The only time I ever opened one of these trios, I was naked, at Gunnison Beach in New Jersey. This mainland-Chinese trio of two women and a man, all business students at some nearby college or university, had shown up at around 5:30 on a Saturday, as the regular beach crowd was starting to thin out, and they were sitting chatting on the beach wearing bathing suits. Obviously they'd somehow heard about the Gunnison Beach scene and were interested in checking it out, without actually participating. I figured that some actual social contact with a naked person would be good for them and good for the beach, and in the best-case scenario, maybe one or more of them might actually get naked themselves. I introduced myself to them, using as an excuse the true fact that sweat was making sunscreen run into my eyes and stinging them, and I wanted to borrow a tissue. I ended up having a nice hour-long chat with them, and they seemed totally cool with the situation, not offended at all. As I talked with them, I could see that one of the women was a little less inhibited than the other, and looking back I think I should have tried to prod her a little bit into taking her suit off, and then, if she'd done it, into going for a swim with me--and then who knows what that might have led to. But nude beaches and opening sets were pretty new territory for me at the time, and so I was cautious.
I really need to beef up my Mandarin and then try to open some Chinese male/female trios using conversation practice as an excuse, both here in the Washington area and next summer at Gunnison.
