First trip to South America
12-30-2009, 09:39 PM
Thank you Roosh, I have enjoyed this website.
I'm going to South America in May for about 7-10 days...
One question: If it is your first trip to South America, where would you go for a first trip?
(Taking into account the following goals)
1) See a few sites, experience a little culture
2) Party, nightlife
3) Women, Women, Women
4) Laid back, not having to stress about arrangements or safety
I was thinking the obvious with Brazil, but I'm a gringo that speaks Spanish so I was hoping to utilize that. It's worked well in Mexico.
Thanks for any suggestions!

Everyone here is pretty hyped on Cordoba, Argentina. Sounds like it fits the bill for what you want. If you have 10 days, maybe 5 days in B.A. and 5 days in Cordoba. Or if you want to make things a bit more interesting, 5 days in an Argentine city and 5 days in Rio de Janeiro(though not the safest place obviously, but still worth it).

That's not much time.
Either Medellin or Buenos Aires.

I am going with a friend who has already been to brazil 3 times. He said he doesnt care, I was just thinking something different.
I have been looking at Brazil or Argentina. I prefer a place where I can actually utilize my espanol.
Thanks for advice.

If you do decide to go to Brazil for part of the trip, you can still use your Spanish there.
You can speak in Spanish and most Brazilians will understand you. And depending on your facility with languages you should understand a lot of Portuguese. Something like 70% of the vocabulary is shared (while the pronunciation is distinct).

Yeah they will understand you for the most part, but overall communication will be extremely limited.

We may understand you clearly, but you may not understand the replies, and be misunderstood in some words.

10 days in BA (for example) is more than enough time. If you do that, you could at least consider an excursion (like take the ferry to Uruguay for a couple of days) or as has already been considered, go to Cordoba or somewhere in the Arg. interior for a weekend.
