Hartford, Connecticut Data Sheet
Overview: I used to live in this area and have spent a decent amount of time here over the last couple of years for a client so figured I’d drop a data sheet. Anyone who does any sort of consulting that caters to insurance companies is likely to pass through the area sooner or later and hopefully this will help you. Fair Warning: I find the local women to be in a word “meh”
There is no simple or easy to understand public transportation so I recommend you have a car or a dependable ride if you are here for an extended period of time.
There are two of the biggest casinos in the world about an hours drive away. Foxwoods (contains an MGM Grand and Mohegan Sun. Happy to break down details of both if there are any questions)
There are some University Students who live/part downtown and they are primarily from UConn, Central Connecticut State University, St. Joesephs, University of Hartford or Trinity. None of these are places you want to travel to daygame except UConn – but only they only have a satellite campus in the area with the main campus 45 minutes away and not worth the drive.
Hartford has a very small town feel so it seems like everyone knows everyone and you see the same people no matter where you go
Lodging: The airport is about 20 minutes without traffic and 45 with so if you are here for work insist they put you up downtown. Marriot and Hilton are both standard as you expect. Avoid the Crowne Plaza like the plague. There are some smaller hotels such as Holiday Inn Express as well but I can’t comment on those.
Game Areas: Downtown Hartford -
No day game spots I am aware of.
Happy Hour Game:
Happy Hour Game is my personal favorite for the area. Good way to meet people from the area/other consultants. I recommend these spots (all within a five minute walk): Trumbull Kitchen – best happy hour spot based off quality of women Salute – good spot with a crowd that sometimes slightly older. This and TK have outdoor seating Feng – sushi spot. Don’t be shy about going up and engaging any solo female sitting alone at the bar. A female consultant goldmine The Russell – sort of a small intimate spot catering mostly to blacks/latinos Agave – known for having lots of different kind of tequilas. Another good consultant hunting spot Max Downtown – the most “sophisticated” of the downtown spots Vitos – hit or miss but hands down the best actual happy hour deals Mortons Steak House: Slightly older spot
Night Game:
The spots listed above cater to the more “sophisticated” crowd at night. If you are not into that the night spots are: Pigs Eye – no cover, good drinks, no dancing really, pool tables PourHouse – no covers, looks like they transplanted the place directly from a warzone. Grimy dance floor NV – Predominantly black club. Pat downs at the door Black Bear – Cover. Lots of attractive women inside since they get in free before 12 I think Up or On the Rocks – Cover. Waste of time unless it is looking packed as may be some gems on dance floor The Russian Lady – opened recently. Cover but has something for everyone, dancing/pool/live rock band on one floor/rooftop smoke area Bocca Rossa – nice chill spot – usually not overall crowded and with surprise hotties Tavern – just a chill spot to grab a beer Burger Baby – also just a spot to chill and grab a beer
West Hartford - by far the best overall location for all around game:
Day Game (weekend only): CheeseCake Factory (in a retail center call Blue Back Square) Elbow Room (West Hartford Center) – if the weather is nice hang out in the rooftop area West Farms Mall – it’s a “high-end” mall but tons of hotties roaming around
Happy Hour Game:
These places are all functionally the same. Happy Hour spots for the after work professional Grants CheeseCake Max Burger Max Oyster Barcelona
Night Game:
Grants – steak house by day. Gets the overflow from Barcelona by night. Worth a stop in Barcelona – the best place to go. Small dance floor and the hottest chicks Shish – very hit or miss. My buddy swears he has seen hookers there but who knows. Big dance floor in the middle but a bit away from the west Hartford center spots SideBar – gets super crowded but the third part of a circuit that includes grants and Barcelona Cuvee – in blue back square by the cheesecake factory. The closest the area comes to a chill nyc type lounge.
Glastonbury –
Day Game – No Clue
Happy Hour Game: Plan B Burger – one of the top burger spots also has a chill happy hour scene
Night Game: Rooftop 120. This is right next door to the above spot. Multi Level and there are supposedly going to be heaters on the roof to make it year round. A good time and worth the stop if you are in this direction
Women: I find the local women to be overall not worth the time. The problem is it seems that lots of them have never left the area and lived here all their life and think they are incredible. This is certainly not the case with NYC, Boston, and Providence all within 3 hours you would think they would be a bit more knowledgeable about their relative worth but they seem not to. Lots of them seem to wear what they “think” is fashionable (and probably was in 1960) but is not nearly as flattering as it could be. Also a big lack of the gym and exercise culture which is lots of other places. I may be judging the area too harshly since I live in NYC now but there ya go. Great consultant hunting though since lots of them are bored
Any specific questions about the area feel free to ask or drop a line.
