it is genuine. you didn't make her "special". corny or not, every person wants to be somehow special and liked/appreciated for their own unique trait. you didn't assure her why you like her beside her looks

100% agree with this, only issue is discerning "why me" versus "why me you can have anyone here". You go to cocky funny if it's more of a hmm why did u talk to me. Versus you're so interesting/attractive I want to fuck you. In the second case yes immediately compliment/be direct.
