Salary Poll

I thought there was a similar poll before, but I couldn't find it on the search. You constantly see, "ballers", "rich guys", "poorer guys", etc. on the forum, but I'm curious where people stand.

I know "rich" in NYC is a different number than "rich" in Iowa, but let's just look at the hard data. This would be US dollars in America (I'm guessing Americans are a large majority here).

Don't worry, I have it on "private".

In retrospect, its definitely skewed kinda high, but these are the numbers that may get interesting. I do understand the median personal income in the US is about $40k.

Interesting that income here was equated with salary. I'm self employed but voted anyway.

Yes, it should have said "income poll". The actual poll title made it clear enough!

I haven't had a steady job in over a year. At least I know that when a chick likes me, she really likes me.

Currently deployed so lovin the tax free money. Before the deployment, living off GI Bill, work-study and drill pay. Pre deployment maybe 1400 a month as a full time student with classes paid for. I love the military haha.

The cycle of disrespect can start with just an appetizer.

People are absolutely fucking loaded here in DC. It is unreal. However, expenses are stupid so at the end of the day 100K isn't quite as insane as it sounds. Don't get me wrong people are still living the yuppie upper crust life just not quite with gold ceilings and electric ass wipers.

Rent is like 1400 for a tiny studio in a semi-decent neighborhood. All your shit will still get stolen if you leave it outside even if its locked (including my motorcycle) and you might hear gunshots on occasion.

A two bedroom with an updated kitchen is going to set you back no less than 2,400 and the range is going to be like 2400-4000. I've met some idiots sharing penthouse like apartments for 5,000+ a month.

Further out in the suburbs rent drops down quite a bit and you can find 2 bedrooms in the 1500-2400 range.

Car insurance is going to fuck you as well. It's going to be 800-2000 a year with a decent driving record due to the fact that it sucks to drive around here and half of the city is waiting at any moment to steal some rich dudes brand new BMW.

After you factor a bunch on things in 100K DC is like 75-80 SoCal, 60-65K everywhere else in bumblescum. At the end of the day 100k in DC is going to put you right at the center of the 5-10 years corporate experience yuppy curve depending on how often you gargled the mans balls. Non-profits and government this might put you in the 65-70th percentile. Dad was blue collar and made 70k after 30 years so that gives some range on that as well.

It's not hard to get a 100k job, the going day rate for a licensed engineer or captain in the oil patch is between $700.00 to $850.00 a day. All it takes is getting hired on as a deckhand or oiler and wait until you have enough seatime to sit for your license. Usually just a few years, in the mean time you are making $300.00 a day working on deck or cleaning in the engineroom.

Running a business is key to making good money. I went from ~130k/year to almost 300k per year in a short period. If you are in the DC area, look in to government contracting. There are a lot of programs for small businesses.

The government agencies are running the SBIR programs (small business innovative research) for those of you with science backgrounds. Lots of money to be had there.
