Was hit on in the elevator a few hours ago. I was holding a racket and we made arrangements to play later this week. She's cute enough to fuck (not hot) but I'm having nightmare visions of her banging on my door.
Any advice on how to play it? I've never worked in "routines" conveying "the expectations." I'm maybe leaning towards just making friends with her for now and scoping her friends.

Hey before you write off banging her, find out if she owns or leases her unit. If it's leased, find out when it's up. If she's gonna be in the building for more than 3 months take the G's advice. If less go for it.
It also stands to reason that if your apartment has facilities to play some type of racquet requiring sport, it may have a pool, hot tub and sauna. A tennis match could be all the foreplay you need.
Now I dealt with what you are afraid of happening a few years back in my first condo. This chick would yell from her lanai three floors down. She also pulled the move on me like the lady does in Goodfellas with the calling box. I had to complain to the building owners association. The girl was a renter and never messed with me again after they threatened to throw her out.

If you do become a friend...do not give off sexual vibes. If she is somewhat cute she probably has hot friends. It's a tough thing to do because she could become attracted to you and cockblock you to her friends. If you want to work that social circle angle, I'd say work the friend thing. It'll take longer and you'll have to work harder, but you may find a gem. If you want to bang her out for instant gratification/easy sex, do that. I don't find it that big of a problem that she's your neighbor. You can set firm boundaries and if she's at least somewhat sane, she'll respect them, but you must be firm. I just wouldn't give off any boyfriend vibes, though. If she gets crazy, you can take it up with your housing association, like Kona says.
I personally don't like doing much social circle game and don't fuck friends/friends of friends much because it can get messy, so my opinion may be biased.

I'd say that working into her circle of friends, by just being her 'friend' would be unlikely. This is because this isn't how girls think. They don't want new platonic guy friends. They want f-buddies, generally. I mean it could happen, but I wouldn't make it your primary strategy.
This generally only happens when there is some kind of life circumstance, ie:work or a social club, that enables you to be around her often. Just living in the same building, unless you constantly see her, makes a further platonic relationship unlikely. If you lived directly next door, or she invites you to go out with her and her friends, than that could happen. otherwise, she probably isn't gonna think of you unless you represent a sexual option.
Furthermore, her and her friends will probably assume that your trying to bang her. Her friends will maintain a distance for a while because of this. And if you don't, both she and them might assume that you have weak game and discount you altogether. All of this might not go down as I say, but I think there is a good chance of this being the case, imo.
Instead, get to know her a bit before you decide to f-her. See if you'd be able to stand a year of living in the same building as f-buddies. If not, then definitely don't. Its not worth it. Your eventual non-attraction to her will make her more obsessed with you.
If you like her, and think you can stand her, then go for it. I think that represents your best chance for a worthwhile sex buddy in this situation.
The friend thing is too long a shot.
