travelers who need to eat a lot of food

Iam a 6ft5 guy with an ectomorph body and feel absolutely terrible if i dont eat at least three big meals a day.Iam not fat or greedy my body demands i eat like a king everyday or it tortures me until i do.

Iam a traveler at heart but depressingly at the age of 41 i have been to about 3 countries because the thought of not eating enough food puts my off travelling.I have now decided to dedicate the rest of my life to traveling and meeting women. While abroad i will just have to eat out cheap in cafes or the hotel, all day if i have too because life is passing me by.

I know there are ectomorph travelers on the board and would be very interested to hear how they deal with this problem.

My suggestion is to rent furnished apartments. It gives you access to a kitchen. Go to the local market and buy what the locals eat. It will be cheaper there, and cooking at home is healthier and saves money over eating out. Study the local cuisine beforehand, especially the names of the food in the language. Make a cheat sheet. Also, it opens a venue for girls to come over and have girls show you how to cook the local flair. Cook large meals, and eat leftovers, and/or freeze the rest in portions to eat later. I do this in the U.S. and it saves a lot of money.

In places like Thailand, the street food is awesome and cheap. I wouldn't cook there, other than just to learn some basic Thai dishes.

I am trying to gain muscle and read the "starting strength" web page, and he advocates drinking a full gallon of full fat milk daily.

I am drinking kefir because it's easier to digest in EE, but you can get 950 gr for about one US dollar, and drink I guess about 350-400 calories and some pretty good protein in 10 minutes if you're hungry; no preparation time. It also makes sure you get the most important nutrient, water.

Some whole grain bread which is about .70 a loaf here prevents constipation. I haven't been sick in the few months I've been drinking at least one of those kefirs a day.

Yeah, if you have a furnished apartment you're good to go.

If you're in a place in Thailand you can easily hire a full time cook for cheap. I'm in the same situation as you. I figure the best way for me to travel is to spend 80 percent of my time staying 1 month at a spot really exploring it, and 20 percent jaunting around for 3-4 day trips to find my next 1 month stay.

In pretty much every country I've been to, they have food for sale.

When you travel, you would normally have an abundance of time, right? So I would think finding time to eat is not the issue.

Are you worried about cost? Just choose a cheap country and you're set.

One of my go-to travel snacks was chocolate milk. Satisfying and cheap.

You will want to sample the local foods. That's part of the pleasure of traveling. Be flexible in your planning and go with the flow.

Why can't you eat when travelling? You can eat as little or as much as you like and in SE Asia, South America, Eastern Europe for example food is cheap, you can eat like a king for a couple of dollars. I think you're just making excuses not to travel my friend. Do it!

You don't understand. He needs to eat 5-6 meals a day of quality food, and to also be hitting the gym. This is very difficult when travelling, because he's burning a lot of calories as he goes, then add in that it's difficult to find substantial nutritious food while on the move, and finding gyms all the time is a pain in the ass, especially ones that you can visit for just one day.

If you are looking at long-term travel, then as I have mentioned before the best thing is to rent an apartment somewhere as quick as you can, make sure there is a gym and plenty of food options nearby. You need to have a rock solid plan.

Whilst travelling take some beef jerky with you for the journey so you have some quality protein whilst on the move

I am also put off by travelling at the moment for the same reasons

Take a tub of weight gain supplement with you and a shaker. That way you can get your calories in you even on long bus journeys etc. No need to ever miss a meal again. There is no reason for you to not be able to ear regular meals at regular intervals in the places you want to go. Tupperware will be your friend too: cook up some portions in the morning and put them in your day bag in Tupperware and you can then eat throughout the day. Im obsessed with not missing meals regardless of what in doing either at home or abroad and have taken my Tupperware and protein shakes to pubs,clubs,gigs...get funny looks but I don't give a fuck,my meals and the confidence they have brought me through my steadily improving physique means more to me then pretty much any other part of my life including women.

So as you can see there is no reason not to keep your weight up abroad. Now book your flight, get out there and go pull some foreign fanny.

+1

I prioritise Gym over women.

If you are serious about your fitness, then you must be prepared to make sacrifices, as with pursuing any major goal.

I personally make sure I always have food in the house, to save me going out for midnight missions to find sustenance.

I eat a lot of chicken/turkey and rice(boil in the bag), i'm not a great cook, so this is a quick way for me to get the carbs/protein I need. I sometimes also carry this around in a tupperware container.

The fitness side of things is more difficult whilst travelling, being sat on your arse for hours is terrible.

As for nightclubs, I think taking a shake to the club is too extreme. I just make sure I eat before I go out, and get when i'm finished

Also, I don't dance too much. If an ectomorph get's carried away with dancing, he will wake up the next morning looking like Skeletor

Thanks for your reply guys.

The apartment is the way to go for long stays.Iam not a bad cook so that should be fine but i dont really want to be cooking when im abroad i do enough of that at home and want time to see the sights and sleep with women.

Im so desperate to travel i will just be happy to go somewhere for one or two nights and find cheap local cafes or restaurants and eat their three times a day.I would defiantly take shakes with me, nightclubs every bloody where. Its like being a diabetic but its food you need every three hours.

He didn't mention anything about the gym nor 5 or 6 meals a day, he actually said he had to eat like a king, which I would assume means eat a lot of good food and that he had to eat at least 3 meals a day, which is quite normal.

All this is entirely possibly in any country in the world, they all have food and you can eat as much or as often as you like. Many are so cheap the cost isn't going to be a factor either. You're not going to be 'travelling' every day, maybe at the most every few days if you want to move around lots. In that case you take food on the bus or train with you in case you get hungry. For long journeys in pretty much every country I've been to the train or buses will either serve food or stop for food and you can usually get food on a flight.

Yeah taking food to pubs etc. is a bit extreme I admit and I don't do it very regularly but when I'm in a particularly obsessive phase I have. A few years ago I was backstage after a Pete Doherty gig at the Roundhouse in London. People were rocking up crack pipes and skag and there I was mixing up the old protein shake amongst them all: without a doubt my least rock and roll moment.

+1 on the food costs.

Believe me, food is only one part of the equation. Gym is another major part, and no going for a run won't cut it, cardio is the devil. He needs to do heavy lifts, squats, deadlifts, bench, lunges. 5 or 6 meals a day is actually standard practice for ectomorphs looking to gain size(inlcuding me)

There is also the issue of not burning off the food due to be sedentary for so long, in which case what you eat turns to fat and accumulates on your belly, while your legs and arms wither away into matchsticks.

Well he didn't mention the gym so I can't make assumptions on that. He mentioned he needed to eat well and eating well is possible almost anywhere. At least in places where most people would want to travel.
