Which part of DC area to live in?

Hi guys

I moved to the DC area recently for a job. I'm trying to figure out where to live here and came across Roosh's blog (which I have really enjoyed reading) and from there the forum. Looks like everyone on here hates DC, and I'm not a huge fan so far either, but it is what it is unfortunately. I'm just trying to make the best of it.

Anyway, I'm looking for advice on what part of the area to live in. I'm a 25 year old white guy. Right now I'm staying with family in Rockville MD. I work in Tyson's Corner and there doesn't seem to be much out there except office buildings and the mall from what I've seen so far.

I'd like to live within a reasonable commute to work, the traffic and terrible drivers here are already making me rage, although I'm sure the commute is going to suck no matter where I end up moving.

Any advice?

Since you work in Tyson's, I recommend moving to VA. There's nothing worse than commuting on the beltway.

As for where in VA, if you want to be close to the local action, I recommend Arlington (Clarendon, Ballston, Courthouse). That way, you're near the bars in that part of the area where you can find decent girls, though mostly yuppie types. There's some good gyms, yoga studios, and a Trader Joe's and Whole Foods there. There's also a Circa bar which is in other cities (even Toronto) as well. I think it's a great place to day game.

Plus all those three areas I mentioned in Arlington are on the orange line trains that lead right into DC.

Because of the convenience factor, I recommend Arlington. It's not the cheapest option but you get more bang for the buck.

I can't really recommend anywhere else in VA. You may want to consider Falls Church or something. That will put you in between Arlington and Tyson's, though there's nothing in Falls Church.

Tyson's Mall is the best one in the area and is a great place to day game. Not much going on outside of that though. Falls Church is on the orange line and can get you out to Arlington and DC.

Alex,

Here is an idea for you. Stay in a DC hostel for 1 month and commute from there and see how you like it. If it's too much of a pain, do like Hencredible said (I agree with him btw).

As a DC native I agree with everything in this thread.

My one piece of extra advice is that you need to become intimately familiar with the roads that lead in and out of Tyson's Corner. You should look into the possibility of arriving late/leaving late from work if that is possible. Going up Glebe to Old Dominion to Dolly Madison at least used to work from Ballston before the Silver Line construction started.

I used to live in Rosslyn/Courthouse and it was money. Anywhere along the Wilson Blvd corridor from Rosslyn to Ballston is sweet. Listen to Hencredible on this one. Although DC sucks, and Arlington to some extent, given the shithole I'm stuck in now, I'd give a nut to be banging those snobby Arlington girls again. You have a lot of options in North Arlington. Good luck.

You better move to NoVa. Highest concentration of hotties in the DMV. I was at Tysons 1 yesterday and you could literally approach hot chics ALL DAY. Move to NoVa or KILL yourself. The decision is yours.

Umm where did you get this idea from at all? Northern VA is one of the most diverse areas in the country. IMO its much more diverse than DC, though not as Gay friendly as DC, but as Gay Friendly as any suburban area in the country.

I'm not saying Nova is racist...let me be clear...it is a great area and great place to live....but alot of "white fright" has lead to ppl living there...some of it warranted (80's-90's crack epidemic uhhh). But I have former coworkers who referred to SE DC as "down there" even though physically it's above Nova...or refused to ride the Metro lines that went through those neighborhoods...or (LMaooo) think PG county is dangerous....PG county can have some badass crime every now and then but it ain't that bad. I had a white senior manager try and convince me that Mitchellville and Bowie was dangerous...LMFAO......So it's just based on personal experience.

I would second (third?) the Ballston/Arlington recommendation. If you were working right off a train line I would recommend moving into the city, but, given that you're going to ostensibly be driving into work over in Tyson's Corner, I would recommend living over on the VA side of the river.

I lived very near the Ballston stop for a summer, and I enjoyed it. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either. There are some good gyms and a number of high quality targets living along the Orange Line corridor. I had my best luck at the Clarendon Ballroom, and tried (albeit with limited success) to run a lot of daygame at the local Harris Teeter, which was filled with hotties after work.

The Nova residents you've spoken to have good reason to fear those places you mentioned....
