I'm a divorce lawyer and I personally have seen a ton of marriages break down when one party (either the man or woman, but usually the woman) decides to stop working for whatever reason.
Unless you have a family of 4+ children, they will have too much time on their hands. This means they also have more time to spend money gratuitously and/or sleep with the poolman. And the other person will resent the fact that they are pulling all of the weight financially.
