Speaking from experience as a pale, blonde guy I can say that things are not easy, especially in the west. There is no special treatment given blonde guys and since I live now in a "minority majority" area of US I would even say that I have to work harder than my darker friends to get similar results.
All things being equal dark features will prevail over lighter one's. Most blonde women prefer a darker guy, some brunette women prefer lighter guys. Also, fortunately for OP the "Italian look" is still the most preferred look by most women in the world (think of a young Alessandro Del Piero).
