Yeah, chola/cholo is pretty much the Peruvian equivalent of "nigger" (especially when followed by a derogatory word such as "cholo de mierda" o "cholo asqueroso.") It's kinda complex though, you can see some people calling their bros cholo/mi cholo in the same way some americans would call their friends "my nigga" but it's better to avoid it altogether to avoid any faux pas since that's easier than learning all of the cultural nuances this word has.
