I don't want to derail the thread, but to give you the short answer I didn't think The French Riviera was a great as I thought it would be for living. Visiting, it's great. And it is unbelievably beautiful.
Monaco was the only place I would live, but it has way too many drawbacks ($30 cocktails being one). I may do a Miami VS The French Riviera Comparison Data Sheet if there is any interest although I get the feeling people are getting sick of me talking about Miami.
