I read this article today and was impressed:
We Are House-Sitters
They recommend two sites in particular for finding a gig to house-sit:
Trusted House-Sitters ($75 annual fee)
Mind My House ($20 annual fee)
House-sitting seems like a great idea, but it appears as if you need to have great references, or at least something to get you ahead of the competition, perhaps like speaking the local language or having a nice smile, or being the right race.
I live in an expensive city and the idea of house-sitting in a nice pad is appealing.
More generally I am looking into real estate abroad - wouldn't it be better to just hire a management company to rent out your place to make you some money? The real estate may even pay for itself after a time.
Anyway, I'll probably continue to live in my simple apartment where I do not have to worry about serving a master.
