A British father accused of killing a suspected paedophile after catching him filming his daughter on an iPad was a fitness fanatic who trained daily in the gym, it was claimed today.

The ex-pat, named as Devinder Kainth, 40, has been charged with homicide after allegedly attacking Sandro Rottman in the millionaire's playground of Sotogrande in Spain.

Kainth, also known as a Victor, had been enjoying a meal with his partner, Gemma Hawkins, and their three children in a restaurant when the alleged confrontation occurred.

The couple were said to be well known in the resort for their 'matching his-and-hers black and white Range Rovers' and their expensive spending habits.

Ms Hawkins was described as a 'blonde bombshell' who regularly 'turned heads' when she went out in public.

Kainth was said to work out every day in the gym, with one friend describing him as 'hard as nails'.

He reportedly took part in a Crossfit classes regularly at the gym which is known for being a particularly strenuous 'military-style workout'.

A witness described estate agent Kainth as 'short and stocky' and 'a very well prepared fighter, possibly a kick boxer.'

Ms Hawkins is also believed to be a fitness fanatic like her partner.

Various people in the resort have described her as a 'blonde bombshell' with a 'cracking body'.

A waitress in a restaurant in the resort said: 'When she walked into the restaurant all heads turned'.

Another source added that she's 'better seen and not heard' and a 'real Cockney London girl'.

The family moved to Sotogrande full-time a year ago, although apparently they have been going to the resort for years.

They previously had a house in Casares, another resort nearby, according to a friend.

Kainth was enjoying a family meal when he noticed the German man filming the girl, according to witnesses.

He repeatedly asked Rottman, 43, to stop, but he continued so Kainth grabbed the iPad.

When Kainth discovered pictures of his daughter on the tablet, he threw it on the floor and allegedly punched Rottman in the head before leaving the restaurant.

Rottman, a graphic designer who had been arrested a few days previously for possessing child pornography, was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.

Police confirmed that the blow had caused Rottman's death but one witness said Mr Kainth, known locally as Victor, also kicked the German.

When officers arrived at the scene in the early hours of Sunday morning, they found Rottman with 'very serious' injuries.

The Kainth family were out for a meal at the Spinnaker restaurant where the head chef is Austrian Philip Hannig, who spent a year training under Gordon Ramsay.

According to witnesses, Mr Kainth and his partner, Gemma Hawkins, were eating with their three children - two boys and a girl - when they started chatting to Rottman.

A police spokesman said: 'The incident happened because of a video the victim had been recording of the British man's daughter.

'He snatched the tablet he was using and when he discovered there were images of his daughter on it, threw it to the ground and assaulted him.'
Mr Kainth was identified by witnesses and police arrested him at his nearby home.

He appeared before a magistrate yesterday and was remanded in custody accused of homicide.

The Spinnaker owner, who asked not to be named, said: 'It all happened very quickly.

'The German man appeared to be taking pictures of everyone, not just the British man's daughter. It all seemed very innocent to me.

'The British man was with his family. He seemed to get very upset all of a sudden and punched the other man before anyone could stop him.
'He'd already paid for his dinner and left immediately. The German man is very normal. I knew nothing about him being arrested last month.'

But the manager of another restaurant in Sotogrande said: 'The German Sandro had a bad reputation locally and was banned from various bars.

'He owed money in various places and walked with a limp and was quite an odd fellow.'

He added: 'As I understand it, he was in there with his iPad and taking pictures of people in the bar.

'[Mr Kainth] was looking through the photos on the tablet and saw photos of his children.

'Then he went further back and saw pornographic pictures of other children and just went crazy. He punched him to the ground and started kicking him.'

Police confirmed that the victim 'had been arrested a few days earlier for possession of child pornography'.

Mr Rottman had lived in Sotogrande for a decade and friends say he had a design company in Gibraltar.

He was a well-liked man in the resort, and had a lot of friends. All describe him as being 'educated and smart' and 'always well dressed'.

Rottman was treated at a Gibraltar hospital a year ago for a liver problem, but friends say he was 'getting fitter and cycling every day' and 'getting stronger'.

Sotogrande is one of Spain's most upmarket resorts and is known for its large houses which overlook the Mediterranean and golf courses such as the world-famous Valderrama Club.

The exclusive Andalucian estate is a favourite of Tony Blair, Sarah Ferguson and her daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: 'We stand ready to provide consular assistance if requested.
