I don't think it's try hard, I think it's superfluous, since most people don't know what selvedge is outside of places like NY, LA and London.
Does anyone on here know anything about it? What are the advantages?
Back on topic, it looks good only with fitted/tapered trousers. with a straight leg I think it just flaps about, unless you have a heavy boot (think combat boots or larger).
